What I don't understand is why bring Shore up to have him sit in the press box? If its because he doesn't know the system he can learn the system in Addy.

I doubt that keeping Ortio up was part of the original plan, but with his solid play, maybe the Flames brass are keeping their options open to the possibility of carrying three goalies for a period of time.
Temporarily keeping Drew Shore in the press box to have him remain waiver exempt may just be a roster flexibility move to allow the team to carry three goalies until a move can be made, after which Shore can be recalled.

Well, right now (as far as I know) and for the last game, Ramo is on the IR list so that's a moot point since we, at this moment, only have 2 goalies fit to play.
I could understand your point if we had 3 healthy goalies, but we don't right now.
If you are going to bring him up, play him and scratch Granlund for example. If not, let him play in Addy.
I also think they should be playing him on the RW until he gets more NHL experience. We need another RW with a right handed shot and he needs more experience. Perfect fit.

One thing is that neither Granlund or Shore are missing much in Adirondack. They only play 3 games for the rest of the month.

Not even sugar coating this at all
Granlund had a monster game yesterday. Definitely came back with a presence. No, he didn't snipe a couple, but only positives were happening when he was on the ice and he contributed to the win in various other ways. His line was excellent. He is going to be one fine NHLer, and I don't like that people have been suggesting we ship him out.

Seems to me the Flames often keep players up as it helps them financially too, and I am sure there is a host of other reason that would help shore feel part of the team and what to expect when he gets here.

I like Byron, he has tons of skill just doesn't know how to use it yet. Imagine if we'd given up on Backlund 3 years ago when he looked bad all the time in his 25 point season. Now Backlund's one of our core pieces moving forward and our best shutdown forward. Byron with someone like Poirier would be insane.

Didn't most of all the players get healthy scratched after a few games earlier this season? Most came back and we saw a bit of improvement. Not necessarily sure this is a punishment at this point...

I guess Hartley is thinking it is easier for him to monitor Shore and figure out if he is ready to be full time Flames player. Practicing with the team and let him watch from press box helps Shore learn the system even more. Once Jooris comes back in the lineup, one of Shore or Granlund will be back to Adirondack. Right now if Hartley decides to send him back, no risk of losing him through waivers. So I think at this time they are being cautious to give him another game in the NHL. They are probably not really sure of the severity of Glencross injury just yet. Jooris and Glencross means two players get send down. That would Granlund and Shore. It is going to be tough if Shore plays another game meaning he will have to clear the waiver.

Something has to give, otherwise we lose Shore. Simple as that. He played his game after the call-up so now he's waiver eligible. Carrying Ortio is also another stick in the mud of our goaltending situation.
There has to be a trade within the next two weeks, I'm hoping it's an upgrade on defense or improving the RW.

Madness to talk about binning Byron. Yes, we have a shiny new toy in Shore buts lets just all trust the coaching staff who see these guys every day and believe that they have the best interests of the Flames at heart. I'm sure Byron and Shore are both getting a fair chance.

I believe Shore has one more game before he has to go through waivers.

I can't believe the Oilers suck so bad there is about 20 coaches on this forum they could hire.

I think, if waived, Bolig would pass through waivers. I think there are two things going on simultaneously...
1. A trade is in the works.
2. Injuries are throwing a monkey wrench into trade negotiations.
If it weren't for the injuries, either Shore would have a roster spot freed up or he'd be sent down already. I think they're only keeping him up until Treliving makes a move, then they'll decide what to do. I suspect he's AHL-bound inevitably.

Byron has to start producing points.
Plain and simple. It's reached that point.
If he doesn't, then his icetime should be given to other players to see if they will produce.

So, clearly Byon is worse than Shore, but is he worse than Bouwmeester?

The plan may have been all along to give Shore 1 game, and unless he impressed so much that he had to keep his spot, then have him watch the game from above, learn in training, then bring him along after that.
For a young guy, sitting out a few games isn't necessarily a punishment or a statement that they have no place in the lineup, though we all jump to that conclusion easily

He makes 600k. He doesn't have to produce points, he's a 4th liner.

Byron and Shore are not in competition for a spot in the lineup. That's Shore and Granlund, and I don't think they will move Shore. They are just giving Granlund a little more time up here, and putting off losing Shore's non waiver status. If Granlund really performs well, I suppose they'd consider sending Shore down for a while, but I don't think that's the plan.
Byron isn't going anywhere unless it's in a trade. I could see him sitting for a game or two, depending on the opposition.

The problem is he isn't a fourth liner. Guys likes Bouma, Bollig are fourth line players. Bouma can be used anywhere however. But Byron doesn't play a good fourth line role and there are players that produce more then him on the third line and he isn't a top 2 line player. People keep saying he's good on the PK but he doesn't block shots or anything like that. The only reason he is good is his speed. But he doesn't have the skillset to go with the speed. Byron can be replaced by many players. 600k doesn't mean you shouldn't produce.
