Default Jan 18 Practice - Shore likely scratched tomorrow. Ortio starts again.

So the mystery of the missing shore in San Jose is solved. Shore and Jooris are in non-contact jerseys. see edit notes below

Quote:
Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
#Flames hit the ice at the Toyota Center in El Segundo. C Drew Shore and C Josh Jooris are both in baby blue jerseys.
edit: the media is now calling the blue jerseys, "odd man out" jerseys. previously the Flames used baby blue to indicate non-contact and green jerseys to indicate healthy scratches don't know if they changed it up

edit 2: now confirmed by Wills that Jooris and Shore are cleared for contact.

per Sportak, Glencross is the only one missing

more updates as they come

I would guess the media is mistaken and Jooris and Shore are hurt.

I believe I heard on CBC or 960 last night that the Flames were describing Glencross' injury as day to day

Is it possible the Flames are sitting out Shore for the next two games so they can send him to the AHL for the all-star game and break?

Wills just tweeted out that Jooris and Shore were participating with contact. Thanks to whomever asked him.

Granlund? He's still here? Guess it was just a dream.

per Wills Jooris is close to returning

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Doesn't look like Drew Shore is going to play against his brother, Nick, tomorrow. He can still be sent down without having to clear waivers, and with Josh Jooris looking like he's close to being ready to return, they are going to have to send SOMEONE down when he does.

Granlund had a great screen last night, full marks to a young guy who can show some net front presences, it played a role in 3 of the 4 goals last night.

I'm really starting to hope that a forward can be traded for a D man better than Diaz, so he can be waived, and a space can be left open for all of these AHL prospects who are close. Granlund, Baertschi, Poirier, Hanowski, Ferland

People here must have watched a lot of Shore over the years to be constantly handing him a spot over the other players. As someone who hasn't, I find it odd.

The Flames reportedly scouted him a lot over the past year or so. In the game he played he wasn't out of place.

I don't need to. I can listen to scout reports, listen to Panther fans on other boards, look at numbers, and see he is an obvious upgrade over Byron who brings some energy but absolutely nothing else.

I think Byron brings a lot actually and it's odd that he's being so dismissed right now.

There's nothing obvious to me about Shore's situation. We'll have to see how he plays. To me he's a 24-year-old from Florida's minor league team and he's going to have prove himself just like everybody.

Makes sense. Nothing wrong with putting Shore in the AHL to learn the system. If he plays well we can bring him up. To put him in the lineup hoping he fits in and risking him sitting on the bench for the rest of the season isn't good for Shore or the Flames.

Byron has shown more than Shore at this point.
Shore was ok last game but not spectacular.

For all of Byron's faults (namely, lack of finish) he's one of the best skaters we have at driving possession. I say put him in a shutdown role with Backlund and see what happens. He's a valuable player to have, and I would point the finger at someone like Bollig before I point it at Byron.

Pretty amazing that Ortio is getting his 4th straight start. Another challenging game for him coming up.

Really looking forward to having Jooris back. He's the pure energy player this team needs.

I assume Shore is learning the system, I'm not surprised to see him scratched, probably not indicative of him being sent down.. but who know.

With Shore, it's probably to give Hartley more time to see what he is during practice without losing his waiver eligibility.

Another game and he will have to be waived to be sent down. It's probably just to give him an opportunity to prove it in practice playing with his teammates

Late in the third period of the game in Arizona, the camera panned along the bench and you could see Shore was breathing pretty heavily compared to the rest of the team.

I think it's possible that Hartley just wants to get him up to same level as the rest of the team conditioning-wise so that there's no concern putting him out late in a game.
