They should totally let the Shores face each other. Would be cool for them.

Not enough credit to Gio for getting so much on that backhand...it was his only play to open up the ice, and the fact that it had enough power on it and was a foot off the ice, meant it couldn't be easily swatted away with a stick, and instead hit the shinpad of the defender and to Monahan.
First game in a long time that JG looked really really quiet out there.
Solid game too from Smid and Englland...not a lot of ice, but physical when required, which is a rarity for this team in general.
As for Kypreos, agreed...I think the format after these games is great, the extended time allows for more useful conversation. Guys aren't forced into 20 second slots to get their point across. George is a good moderator, not taking over with his thoughts like Ron McLean did (and does) and Cox, although dumbs the panel down a bit, his comments sparks conversation, and a lot of the response from Kypreos and from Hrudey (the former players) to Cox is where the good stuff from those two guys comes out of.
For example tonight, I had to agree with Cox...Friedman was blaming the center for letting Monahan get to the net in OT...well, 4 on 4 the center has to get to covering the point; a defenseman isn't going to do it?

Shoot, it is. Forgot to add in the 61 minutes for tonight's game.
They didn't have stats published yet so I attempted my own math. Should know by now that's never a good plan.

You scared me. I was actually doing reverse math to figure out how ortio let in 5 goals today and we won anyways.

Play of the game. The kind of play you expect from elite players.
Not just the shot, but the walking the line, getting open to take the shot. That play takes balls and skill.

Flames are 18-7-1 against the west and 13-3-1 against the pacific (best of any team against their own division). Maybe a speed/skill team can thrive in the big, tough western conference after all.
If we could do the same against the east, we'd be fighting for home ice advantage instead of a wildcard spot.
My theory is the eastern teams match up against us better because more of them play the same speedy north-south game.

updated after tonight's games (games over .500):
5. WIN +10
6. VAN +10
7. SJS +8 (host CAL) OTL
8. CAL +6 (in SJS) W
9. LAK +6 (host ANA) SOL
10. DAL +3 (host WAS) W
11. COL +2 (in TBL) SOL
12. MIN +1 (host ARI) W
Every team got at least 1 point. The win puts us back into a playoff spot and sets up a great game Monday in LA

My theory is they're just a young team that have just **** the bed against some east teams out of a lack of familiarity and/or motivation (i.e. getting cocky) or just bad luck (Buffalo, Florida Round 2, Carolina Round 2) along with getting some turrible reffing in another game whilst missing our leading scorer (Detroit). That's four games I think all of us would like a do-over on I think. Add in the Toronto game where we were the better team for 40 minutes and they were the better team for the worst 20 minutes of our season yet only came away with the 1-goal advantage and that's five to ten points I think the flames would look at as pissed away.
You can't help but wonder "what if we win those games we should have won if not for some face-palm worthy situations". Well, all of a sudden that 6-11-2 is probably a 9-6-4 or something. That would put us at 59 points instead of 51!
I think the divisional familiarity and intensity brings out the real Flames. For parts of games at least. As they mature as vets you'll start seeing better consistency too. The only game vs West where I would probably want a redo might be the Stars game, I guess. No surprise, another unfamiliar team.

Was at Brendan Kelly concert tonight, really sucks I had to miss this one (first one I've missed all year), but thrilled with the result!
Love seeing Mony get the winner. Even though he hadn't scored in a while, I thought he was playing really good hockey. This kid just gets better as time goes on. Love this team!
Great night!

The ketchup. It became the focal point of discussion in Ortio's shutout thread.

Three offensive zone faceoffs at the end of the game December 6th at home.
3RD 18:41 Faceoff Sean Monohan won against Joe Pavelski
3RD 18:49 Faceoff Sean Monogan won against Joe Thornton
3RD 18:59 Faceoff Sean Monogan won against Joe Thornton
There is nothing more clutch than that. I was ok with losing that game when there is an opportunity for a 20 year old in our system to develop in a high pressure situation.

Also gave them another few days before activating any one of the injury lest too. Not playing him this game gives the flames an option of sending him down without waivers. IMO.this was a game for Granlund to shocasr himself. Either him or Shirr are the next one to be sent to Addy. Granlund will most likely stay until Shore is familiar with Calgary's system.Management may send Granlund down anyways and just hope Shore is a fast learner and risk, like they did with Colborne.

Granlund line with Colborne looked really good tonight. Raymond looked better than he has so maybe the pressbox did both he and Granlund some good, but I'd still rather see Ferland on that line with Granlund and Colborne as I think they would be a really tough 3rd line to play against.
Shore might need a few practices to learn the system as others have said so I'd have no problem with them keeping him out until he learns the system and then giving him a shot at some games.
When Jooris comes back I hope they sit Byron for a game or two just to see if it can spark him like it did the others.
