HTPC IR receivers

I just picked up one of these for use as an HTPC and Steam streaming box for the living room:

I've also got a Logitech Harmony Ultimate One remote that I would like to be able to control it with for things like Plex. So my question is what's a good IR receiver to buy with decent drivers/software that lets me do some simple scripts (like make a one button command that opens Plex or Steam)? A quick google search brings up thousands of different options, so I'm hoping someone here has more experience with HTPC's and can give some recommendations

I have used this both on windows and Macs. It works well, and works well with Harmony. Not sure about the automation you are talking about, but for Harmony there is a profile set up in the software and all you have to do is pick Plex as the manufacturer.

I just ended up buying an HP MCE IR receiver. Like this one.

They're all over eBay as New (Old Stock), with some as cheap as $14 with free shipping. They use the standard Microsoft eHome receiver drivers (ie: No driver disk required), and there are some free utilities available to re-map key-presses to perform other tasks.

Seems like with so many ways to stream content to TV's now that the HTPC market is dying out, so many items are discontinued now and/or are available through ebay as old stock. Flirc looks like a nice cheap solution, but as the ASUS VivoPC doesn't have any front facing USB ports I had to rule it out

After playing around with the Harmony software a bit, you can add a Microsoft MCE Keyboard and Windows Media Center SE as devices which allows you to use any keyboard button or combo (using the ctrl, alt, and win keys) you want, so pairing that with something like autohotkey should allow me to setup whatever macro commands I want. Now the hardest part will just be waiting for everything to get here
