I am a fairly understanding / forgiving person but that's not something I think I could forgive. They went way past the line of taking advantage of their son and if it was me I'd probably never talk to them again.

So the parents planned ahead for their income stream after Jack retires. That's sound financial planning.

Yeah, if it were me they'd be dead to me.

Yeah, I have no idea how one could continue to include those people in their lives.

Like others have said, Jack probably would have given them everything they would ever need if only they would have asked. But that wasn't good enough.

I'd imagine he'd cut ties with them forever due to this. Even small dollar financial issues cause massive rifts in families that are long lasting. But millions of dollars? I don't see how you could possibly mend that relationship.

Ah, seems like a wasteful thing to do though. They pilfered from him mainly because they were likely broke from their own poor investing of their own money. All sueing them would do IMO is keep these fools front and center of your mind longer.

If it were me my reaction would be to never talk to them again and let them live in the squalor they created.

You gave them the power and they made bad decisions with it.

What do you sue them for?

Long term revenge.

I would pretend to forgive them, love them, invite them to family events. Wait until they hit that age and then book them into the crappiest most abusive old folks home that I could find where they spend the day making knockoff wallets and their nights eating the worst food possible while wearing the cheapest adult diapers possible that are never changed. The T.V. would have one channel that showed re-runs of my 600 lb life over and over again. The only board game they have is the Buddist version of the game of life.

Oh and then I would cut them off and never visit them.

Deception. Maybe negligence. Hard to say without knowing the particulars but people acting as agents get sued all the time

They did deliberately mislead and outright lie to him on several documented occasions.

And if you're in charge of someone's money you owe that individual a duty of care which was obviously and deliberately breached.

They also acted as his agents and financial planners which, parents or not, is an official capacity.

And for his little Bros sake, that is why he has left his parents alone as far as any legal activity. I think it says that in the stroy somewhere, I havent re read it.

Sources: Jack Johnson's Parents Also Screwed Over His Grandfather
Quote:
Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson's parents have left their son with a mountain of debt, but this apparently wasn't the first time Jack Sr. and Tina Johnson took advantage of a family member. According to two sources with knowledge of the transaction, Johnson's parents secretly seized ownership of his grandfather's Las Vegas condominium to use as collateral for a loan.

Hmmm. Maybe not so cut and dry after all.

But at least two of Johnson’s lenders — RFF Family Partnership and Pro Player Funding — say that Johnson and his parents are not estranged but were complicit in taking out the loans and are conspiring to outmaneuver the bankruptcy court.

It might not be that his parents did anything nefarious but simply invested his assets in poor or high risk investment vehicles.

I mean, banks aren't going to want to let the primary income earner not take responsibility. They're going to suggest this either way.
