After a few days off I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Flames look sluggish in the 1st, and possibly the 2nd as well. Quite often they don't wake up until the 3rd period and that's when they're playing every couple of days. They should win though, the Yotes aren't a very good team right now and they just traded their better goaltender, so if the Flames lose this one it will sting.
Not expecting much from Shore, but hoping he has a good game.
Hope Ortio can continue his play from last game.

Remainder of Flames road trip and current record against the teams:
Vs. Arizona (Flames lead 3-0)
Vs. San Jose (Tied 1-1)
Vs. Kings (Flames lead 2-0)
Vs. Ducks (Tied 1-1)
I'll take that. Just please no more east coast road trips.

Happy to see Ortio getting another start before Ramo's return and excited for Shore's debut - hoping for a nice clean win tonight!

I'd like Backlund, Gaudreau, Shore, and Monahan to score. Please and thanks.

As cliche as it is, this stretch of games can literally point us in a position for solid playoff hopes or extremely diminished hopes.
A team like PHX is a must win
Then playing SJ and LA who would be within 2 pts should we win against PHX.
We can easily end this road swing in 7th-8th looking at 5th-6th as a goal or we finish in that 9-10-11 area which is a log jam.
I hope Shore brings a bit of that "youth energy" we have seen when young guys are brought up and the flames put the boots to PHX and Ortio makes a case to stay up for another game, even if it is as a third goalie.

Just hope the Flames are still playing meaningful hockey at that time.

As Bingo and a few others pointed out, this coming road trip is pretty important so I hope they keep playing well and don't stop until summer!

Agreed. But 3 things make me feel better about this one:
1) Ortio starting - should get their attention
2) Shore's first game - at the very least, he and Colborne will be energized
3) This is Arizona's first game since trading Dubnyk - hoping they are feeling like the season is done.
Also, the Flames are 6-0-0 against the Yotes and the Oilers so far this year, outscoring them a combined 26-11. That is taking advantage of must-win points!

This game will be enjoyable to watch. Ortio trying to make a case to stick in the NHL this season. 21 year old Drew Shore making Flames debut. A 5 day break between games. Playing a team the Flames have destroyed 3 times already this season.
|
Agreed, I've been surprised to see the amount of Flames content that has appeared on NHL.com this year. I remember the last few years where unless the Flames were the only team playing on the night, the recap would never be on the homepage. If you aren't going to try, I'm much happier that you don't.
Also... Sorry to be nitpicky, but I'm pretty sure Shore (heh) is 23, not 21.

Interestingly, the Coyotes will be wearing their old colour splash jerseys in March:

Too bad they won't be playing against the Flames in those, that would be very interesting to see on the ice.

Awesome writeup Cali. I've made it a habit of scrolling to the bottom and Thanking before I start reading. I think the Flames take this, playing tight defensively in front of Ortio and Shore looks solid; maybe gets a point. Monahan can't also keep hitting posts forever.

In case I don't say it enough, thank you to everyone who not only reads and thanks my posts, but adds supportive comments in the thread. I would do these anyways because I love to, but it really is great to see everyone appreciate it.
Thanks again everyone.

You have the best write-ups that I've seen in my (limited) time as a CP member. Both in terms of the quality of the writing and the actual content. Thank you.
I like Hartley's style with the lines. He's not hesitant to move players up, move players down, or sit players in the press box based on how they're playing. No old boys club here.

The lineup is looking good. The option of flipping the Monahan wingers to get guys going should help as well.
Even Diaz is looking better than at the start of the season. Hopefully that D pairing can be less of a train wreck.

I think Sean Monahan is a key player on this trip. His slump is getting lengthy, but the amount of iron he's hit of late suggests his chances are still good. As a streak scorer, getting one tonight could make a huge difference on this trip ... could have 4 in 4 by the time they land in YYC.
Ortio interesting too.
Guessing he's going back to NY State for the Baby Flames next game on Saturday, but what if he's named first star again tonight?

With Dallas and Colorado both on our heels I bet this road trip decides our fate.
