we had a good Reinhart
Mullen went our way and we definitely had the better Loob!
of course we have rarely had the top 5 draft assets necessary to get the good brothers

I have always thought Pronman was in love with the little, skill guys. I have never been a fan of his picks. But I'll give him credit for not being afraid to go 'off the board'.
But putting Nylander #1 (he loved him pre-draft as well) is just embarrassing.
And the whole ignore-the-AHL-players thing is bizarre. But I don't really care about someone else's list anyway, so whatever.

Odd timing on Pronman's part, considering Toronto just brought him over to the AHL because they were unhappy with his progress this season, as well as witnessing some bad habits displayed at the WJC.
|
Didn't they being him to the AHL simply because he'd outgrown the other league and they want him to stay learning the north American pro game??? Not sure how you can turn that into a negative.
Teravainen is overrated IMO

Almost all of the guys on this list will be lower on Pronman's list a year from now. Which doesn't make any sense. It's a dumb list.

I just realized Duclair got sent back to junior. Not sure how I missed that.

Pronman has had a hard on For Nylander and Fiala since mid-last year.
Im not suprised in the least that he has them so high.

Have to give the Jets props as they have probably drafted better than anyone over the past few years. They don't seem shy to pick the skilled players and it's probably going to pay off for them down the road.

I doubt he's outgrown the Swedish league. They moved him over to get him used to the North American game and Modo's been a disaster this year so they wanted him out of there.

That's the part I don't understand either. Logically, the guys further removed from their draft year should be better prospects (except for the really elite high draft picks of the more current year) as they would be more NHL ready, unless they dropped off a cliff. The 2013 Draft year guys should be higher.

It was mentioned on Sportsnet (Friedman, IIRC) that Leafs management wasn't happy with his game, and that was the reason he was brought over.

Unhappy with one of the most dominant seasons by an U19 in the SHL ever? I doubt it.

nice, one of Pronman's colleagues went to NHL scouts to ask them their thoughts on the rankings
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/crai...nce_Top50Audit
They too thought his rankings were too WJC influenced and many questioned Nylander as #1.
Quote:
Another suggested omission was Calgary Flames prospect Emile Poirier, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2013 draft. In his first full AHL season, he has 24 points in 31 games for Adirondack. He missed the start of the season following shoulder surgery, but has come on strong since.
|
nice to know Poirier is catching the eyes of scouts around the league

I must have misheard what was said in regards to Nylander's development, and Toronto's reasoning for bringing him here. I was sure Friedman said they unhappy with his development, and more specifically he mentioned the WJC, but if I'm the only one who heard that.... maybe I'm crazy.

There's a sweet spot age for prospect hype. Like a year or two after getting drafted. Once the prospect gets past that age and begins to learn the pro game, they drop like rocks on the hype lists even though they're still the same players.

Not Sam Reinhart?
Even if you think Bennett is the better player, I think it would be pretty close.

Why? I'm sure most still have him as a better prospect than Nylander or Ehlers and at the draft some had him as the number one prospect.
He would probably still go behind Reinhart though.

Poirier has already shown more than most on that list. He can contribute in a pro league.
He makes the All-Star game as a rookie, no way there are 50 prospects that I would take ahead of him.
