I can't imagine that any NHL player wouldn't show their parents some sort of thanks financially once they have made it, no need to take advantage of their son. Crazy story.

This. I bet all they had to do was ask for some money.

Have to feel bad for the guy. Who would ever suspect their own parents of doing something like that?

Johnson then hired Alan Miller as his agent. Miller calls Johnson "a nice young man," but from the start, he says, there were red flags.
"He was extremely under the control of his parents," Miller told me by phone. Miller said that after he approached Johnson with his qualms over their involvement, Johnson's parents came into his office the next day and told him he was fired. Miller had been Johnson's agent for less than a year.
Goes to show how cognizant they were of getting caught. Sickening.

At least he found out while still having many prime playing years ahead of him, and it should give him a great awareness of how to protect his own finances

I would imagine that it must be tough making millions a year but essentially pinching his pennies, it is a good thing he has a bunch of years left to play.
Must be quite the change. I wonder if he has had to sell his car and house or if he is suing his parents for any of this?

I'd be devastated if my parents did this to me. Cannot imagine the gut wrenching feeling he felt when he found out the truth.

Gotta wonder what they were investing in that expected a greater than 24% rate of return.

The cover stories started to fall apart when Johnson got engaged to Kelly Quinn, sister of NFL quarterback Brady Quinn. Johnson attempted to move toward being financially independent in anticipation of starting a family, according to our source, but his parents "tried to slow down the engagement, advising Jack not to act so soon."
|
So his parents tried to delay him getting married and starting a family (and giving them grandkids) so they could loot more money off him? I can almost imagine one person being that much of a monster. But two? Married to one another? Some kind of nasty pathology going on there.

The don't even deserved to be called parents. They are parasitic d**chebags. I can't even imagine trying to take advantage of your own children. I sock away as much as I can afford for my kids RESP. I don't want them to have the student loan debt I had coming right out of post-secondary (also the result of one deadbeat parent).

And yet, the bible says as one of "the big 10" that they are to be honoured.
Bullcrap. They should be in jail.

They are related. Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) is also one of their brothers. And Magic Johnson is their uncle.

So Tyler Johnson is their half-brother, Lyndon Johnson is their great-great grandfather and Dwayne Johnson is their third cousin twice removed

That's wouldn't be all that surprising, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is literally related to everyone.

Poor Jack Johnson is so hard up for money these days that he has to get a side gig singing crappy tunes.

If this happened to any of you with this much money how would it affect your relationship with your parents?
A. Forgive them?

It's very hard to imagine that situation because my parents would never do that...trying to put myself in Johnson's shoes, I don't think I could ever forgive them.
I think I would talk to them occasionally, be cordial, but the transgressions would never be forgotten or forgiven.
Really, I don't know though.
