Not that I'm in to conspiracy theories, but McDavid in Arizona could really turn that franchise around. I know, there are other factors, but I don't think there is another team in the league except for maybe Minnesota that never had a franchise type player. (I don't consider Thachuk or Doan, Franchise players on the calibre of McDavid's potential)

Ya, I think they can likely pick in the top 3, especially if Smith continues to suck it up. Building around OEL and one of McDavid, Eichel or Hanifin isn't a bad core to start with. I'm sure they have more youngsters who are ready as well.

Dubnyk's new goal is to beat the Oilers with every team in the league.

I don't think Dubnyk is going to solve the Wild's goaltending woes... But its better than what they have now.

Dubnyk was clearly the problem.

I can't wait for Fasth to leave Edmonton as UFA this summer, only to rebound and post good numbers somewhere else.

of Fasth? Yeah, but Dubnyk had similar numbers in Edmonton last season:

Devan Dubnyk (EDM, 2013-14): 29 Starts | 11-17-2 | 3.36 GAA | .894 SV% | 2 SO

The Wild play the Oilers three more times this year. That's a guaranteed six points with Dubber in net...

I would say Gaborik had the hype of a franchise player, but ya, Minny hasn't had a guy that actually then played like a franchise player

And (briefly) Teemu Selane

You trade him because
a) Dubnyk is a pending UFA
b) You're done. you aren't making the playoffs
c) Someone was willing to pay a third round pick for your backup goaltender

This trade is pure win for the Coyotes. As said above, the pick is found money. It cost them nothing to acquire Dubnyk.

For the Wild, this is a product of being in a tough spot. They needed to do something, anything to try and right the ship. Problem is, they are just about done as well, so losing a third rounder for almost nothing is going to hurt a little in the end.

Fact: Dubnyk is an upgrade in goal for the Wild.

That's the most awful thing I've ever written.

The list of goalies that can compensate for a dog**** team is pretty short. Phoenix is horrible. Mike Smith is 11 months removed from being named to the greatest hockey team ever assembled.

Antoine Vermette is the Coyotes' best forward. He's a 2nd line centre at the absolute best. Mikael Boedker, Keith Yandle, Shane Doan and Martin Hanzal round out the top 5 point getters on that team.

Prime Hasek maybe wills that team to the playoffs in the East. Not a chance in the West.

Mike Smith may not be having a great year, but he's way down the list of that team's problems.

So that 3rd is the minimum price for Ramo. It actually makes a 2nd or a prospect more likely because Ramo > Dubnyk

Damn. I was hoping we'd be the ones to sell the Wild a goalie.

Except that now there is one less team than before that is in Minnesota's situation.

I think Doobie is quite underrated, he managed to post some pretty good numbers with the Oilers and that says something.

I think Eichel would be better. He's a potential franchise player, and he's American. My theory is if Toronto misses the playoffs they will "win" the lottery and McDavid will end up in one of the biggest hockey markets, if not the biggest, and Eichel will somehow end up in the southern US to boost that market.
