With the demotion of McGrattan we are only carrying 13 healthy forwards. When Jooris comes back, Granlund can go down so we can keep Ortio if we want.

A few changes after last night's games. Teams in red are from the Pacific Division, teams in black are from the Central Division. I wish the playoff race was a simple top 8 and not these silly quasi division-wildcards that Butthead allowed.

1. Winnipeg (22-14-8) 19 ROW, 52 pts
San Jose (23-16-5) 20 ROW, 51 pts (2nd in div)
Los Angeles (20-13-10) 19 ROW, 50 pts (3rd in div)
2. Vancouver (23-15-3) 21 ROW, 49 pts
3. Calgary (22-18-3) 19 ROW, 47 pts
4. Colorado (18-17-9) 13 ROW, 45 pts
5. Dallas (19-16-7) 17 ROW, 45 pts

Err 5 points back is pretty significant. 3 points is manageable but we have pretty much zero room for sloppy games.

... We're screwed.

Should we let them finish the games, though, or is that just a waste of time?

1. Winnipeg (22-14-8) 19 ROW, 52 pts
San Jose (23-16-5) 20 ROW, 51 pts (2nd in div)
Los Angeles (20-13-10) 19 ROW, 50 pts (3rd in div)
2. Vancouver (23-15-3) 21 ROW, 49 pts
3. Calgary (22-18-3) 19 ROW, 47 pts
4. Colorado (18-17-9) 13 ROW, 45 pts
5. Dallas (19-16-7) 17 ROW, 45 pts
Games in hand always muddle things. If you remember that 95 points (the likely number now as that's LA's pace) is really just 12 games over .500, then the wildcard standings look like this:

1. Vancouver 8
2. Winnipeg 8
3. San Jose 7
4. LA 7
-------------------------
5. Calgary 4
6. Dallas 3
7. Colorado

It really puts things into perspective. We had a great first half, but would now have to finish 11 games over .500 just to tie LA. We only managed 4 games over.500 to date, so it's hard to see that suddenly change, especially with the way the flames are playing right now. We're much closer to Dallas than we are Vancouver, but it's hard to see that if you only look at points. The only way for the flames to make it in is to have one of the top 4 teams on that list take a giant tumble and lower the expected points total

We'll probably barely miss playoffs unless we either go on a winning streak that pushes us into a WC, or losing streak that ends up with us picking 8-10th. But considering we were expected to be bottom 5, even the worst case scenario is still pretty significant progress that the organization can feel pleased about.

I can live with picking Provorov or Rantanen in this draft. There are some good prospects in the middle of the 1st round, so it's no tragedy if we finish the season as a 'tweener'.

13-3-1 vs the Pacific division; best divisional record in the league according to the NHL Network. Will be a huge factor in getting a playoff spot

The Flames have the 3rd best record against the western conference as well. They've also lost the most games against the eastern conference out of all western conference teams.

It's a good sign the Flames are winning most of the 4 point games, but they need to step up their game against the lowly eastern conference.

The NHL Network made mistake, the Islanders do have the best divisional record. The Flames and now the Rangers (with the win against the Pens) are tied with the 2nd best div record.

Games in hand are the worst when trying to figure out where you stand. While it sucks that there are huge layoffs between some games this month, it's nice for the Flames to start having games in hand, rather than the other way around. Always seems like we are 1-2 games ahead of everyone, but now its a bit more even.
