Default 2 Albuquerque Police Officers finally charged with Murder of a homeless man.

Its a story a posted in Police Brutality thread back in march.
The homeless man was camping outside of the city

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/murder-c...-man-shooting/

Quote:
olice said Perez and Sandy fatally shot Boyd, who was holding two knives, during an hours-long standoff in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. Video from an officer's helmet camera showed Boyd, who authorities say had struggled with mental illness, appearing to surrender when officers opened fire.

Albuquerque has one of the Highest police shootings causing death.

Edit. The men charged with murder had dash cam audio recordings of them being anger about the situations and "joking" they were going to shoot Him. The officers thought the dash cam was off.

Quote:
The death of James Boyd was one of many fatal shootings in New Mexico, something the Department of Justice determined was a pattern of unjustified excessive force by the Albuquerque Police Department.

Now a dashcam video has surfaced, which recorded audio of Albuquerque Police Officer Keith Sandy, one of the two officers involved in the fatal shooting of James Boyd, saying he would shoot Boyd in the penis:
Warning: Video is graphic content.

NSFW!

Wow... That was quite terrible.

I've had 4 Calgary cops with 2 handguns and 2 shotguns pointed at my chest this year while having a beer on a front step. I repeatedly asked for them to take their fingers away from the trigger as stating that I had a beer in my hand. And there was a chance that one of them could make a move like this with all the adrenaline

I don't know the story but If it was dark out some neighbors could have contacted 911 if they didn't know it was him. This happens all the time in the States.

A month a ago a black kid went around to his back door to go in and his neighbor called the cops. Cops should up just like that . They then didn't believe him It was his house. He had been living there for almost a year. His parents were white as he was an child that was adopted out of the foster care system.

I would guess it was dark and a neighbor called it in. Its really common in the States tho.

I just ask if we could the thread about this incident tho , myself included.

Edit. Updated Op with info I left out.

About time, these idiots shouldn't have had 10 free hours let alone 10 free months.

The USA is very bizarre when it comes to just how far (legally) resident go to protect their property. There was a famous case about 15-20 years ago, where a slightly intoxicated Japanese exchange student that was studying on a scholarship, was invited to a Frat House, but got the address wrong. When the homeowner pulled out a gun, the student (who was not yet fluent in english), did not understand the resident.

The home owner ended up taking out his firearm and killing the student just for being on his property. He was acquitted of any wrong dong. The Japanese were furious, and their was actually a minor diplomatic crisis between the US and Japan as a result, with the Japanese threatening to issue a travel warning to it's population about visiting the US.

***edit** found the case:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Yoshihiro_Hattori

20 years ago I went down to California for spring training, when I was on the Provincial Canoe/Kayak team. Our coach used to dock his cane, and film our techniques from the docks along the Red River, most belonging to private citizens. He was ignored by the residents, or in many cases, people would come and greet us, and ask us about our sport and make small talk.

In California (Newport Beach), our coach did the same thing one day (docking his boat, and filming our techniques. Next thing you know a guy puts a gun to his head, and tells him to get the ###### off his property. It's fairly insane down there.

That video was horrible. The Police Officers that shot that man should be convicted of 2nd degree murder. I'm glad those types of incidents are less common here.

In the video you can see the bean bag shot gun and they use it AFTER he has been shot dead. In the audio the say they have a Taser. Yet these officers shot live ammunition rounds first.

Why in hell did they let the dog loose after it was clear the guy was incapacitated or dead? Just seemed ridiculously vindictive. Glad they were charged.

I still remember the incident in Nose Hill Park, where that paranoid man from Michigan wrote a letter about how "threatened" he felt, when two locals approached him, and ask him if he had been to the Stampede.

Few years ago company I work for purchased a piece of equipment from a company in Texas. The owner and a small team of his guys were up for about two weeks installing it, calibrating/doing tests, and shooting some videos as it was a prototype that had a new material handling system from their previous models.

Seems when guys from different areas mix, casual stories back and forth can quickly paint a pretty distinct line as far as culture and values. Our safety policies (some company mandated, others law) were ridiculed to no end, and eventually a few of their guys were really pushing the envelope. Apparently the castle law/doctrine is a "get away with murder" loophole in the justice system, and two of these guys were proud as hell of the fact they had supposedly opened fire on unarmed "trespassers" (using the term loosely as I'm pretty sure the main qualifier was skin tone). I remember asking the owner if a shooting range couldn't satisfy his urge to squeeze off a couple rounds to blow off steam.. "It just doesn't feel the same" was a pretty sickening answer.

Scary to think there are "men" with badges who feel the same

When the story was first released in March it was pointed out some officers involved were un aware the officer had a body cam on just like the one officer who is being charged was unaware the dash cam was on and recorded his conversation about shooting James Boyd in the penis.
