QOTD: What ex Flame would you prefer was still on the roster?
The Flames have turned over the top half of their roster in the past two years with many former core players finding new NHL locals.
Who do you wish was still with the Flames? And would that player's attendance help or hinder what has happened in Calgary since they left?

Bouwmeester would be a good fit with the system the Flames are playing with now.

Bouwmeester would be so much better with this team right now than what he was before. Our top 4 would be insane, especially if you are putting Bouwmeester on the 2nd pairing due to the chemistry of Brodie/Giordano.

I believe in the Jays.

Jay-Bo! Would fit right into Bob's system, and would eat up a tonne of minutes as he always does. Good quality defensemen are simply difficult to find.
I also think that his trade value is the highest out of that group, so even if we didn't want to have 3 high-paid D-men, then we would have some highly tradeable assets to move in Gio, Brodie, and Jay-Bo.

I voted Iggy, because he is the best player on the list. I don't know whether the flames would be the same group today if he never left, that is twilight zone stuff to try and assess. My gut says that we needed his absence to get the train pointed in the right direction. That being said I think he could fit back into the squad today and an absolute asset.

Tempted by Bouw, as we really need another top 4 D, but went with None. It was time for a rebuild and I am happy to have Poirier in the system.

Ugh Bouwmeester, no thanks. Like we didn't see enough of him doing nothing in his time here. Can't believe people wanted more of that. So glad he is gone.
If any, it would be Jarome for me. Wish the team could have been built better around him when he was here. That said I'm happy with the direction the team is heading.

I chose none, because I think what we got out of the trades and who has stepped up in their absence has been amazing and what this team needed.
Having another D man like Bouw would be nice but I just think he is too soft, I don't want to be easy to play against. Even Wideman is tougher than this guy. He would be the most intriguing but no thank you, especially looking at his numbers this season!

I picked Cammaleri only because no one else really fit, and Cammy would, though I don't think it would change anything. Iggy would make us better but there are other reasons not to want him back on the Flames

One other point against Bouw. The return we got for him outweighs his current value IMO. The return for Iggy is far from clear.

I almost chose none, but I picked Tanguay. I think if you could pair him up with Mohahan and told him to shoot, he could light it up. That's only if Tanguay wasn't being whiny, otherwise, none.

Bouwmeester joined a team that already had Phaneuf, Regehr, Sarich and Giordano.
This was a team that had made the playoffs for 5 years in a row.
If Bouwmeester was a Flame do you really think that Gio and Brodie would be as good as they turned out?

I went with Iggy. If he was here without a letter and just to play taking Johnny feeds our power play could be deadly.

Iginla for me.
I like Giordano as our captain, but I love our young forwards learning how to be a pro and an all star on and off the ice from a guy like Iginla. A Hall of Famer.
Plus RW is a big weak spot for us at the current time.
Second choice for me would have been Boumeester, for many of the reasons above. I actually think he would be awesome with Wideman and let Russel bump down to the 3rd pairing. Boumeester could cover Wideman's 5 on 5 mishaps and let Wideman jump into the play frequently.
Third would be Oli Jokinen. Again I like the character he brings to the room. I'd bring him into the 4th line role and move Stajan. Cheaper, as much or more character, shorter term contract, and the experience of having to re-invent his game and his commitment to stay in the NHL. Also a guy who battled his demons early in his career (alcohol) by his own admission. He overcame and persevered.

I almost voted for Bouwmeester - but that would mean no Poirier or Smith. Sorry, past Flames. Rebuild is on.

You mean the Bouwmeester that played a significant role with Team Canada at the Olympics a year ago? That's the guy you think did nothing and would do nothing for this team?

Not a single one. We're better off without any of them. Possibly I would want Iggy back if we are a Cup contender and he plays out his last season with us ala Ray Bourque. But I just don't see any of those guys fitting into our system right now other then possibly Bouwmeester. But even on a strong St. Louis team he is on pace for his worst season ever.

Cammalleri.
I think we could really use another shooter on the top 2 lines.
