Perhaps if it was another player.

Matt Cooke doesn't get the benefit of the doubt anymore. We've seen this movie too many times.

I remember Jokinen got 2 or 3 games for this with a completely clean record.

Cooke should be getting something. Crosschecking to the chest is a 2-minute penalty if they actually care to call it. Crosschecking someone in the face makes you an idiot with not nearly enough motor control to be playing in the NHL. Cooke very clearly has problems with controlling his arms and feet so perhaps he needs some time off.

Cooke picked the wrong guy to cheap shot. That was a satisfying beat down by Weber.

Webers a tough cat, and he slapped Cooke's mouth. Best part about it was no crying from Weber. I guess thats always been a big part of it for me. Seeing guys just do something about it, then carrying on.

I love the look on Weber's face just before he grabs Cooke.

I love Weber. Took a jab to the face and immediately rectified it himself. Such a beast.

I thought real-time made it look worse. With slow-mo I couldn't tell how hard the cross check was, but when it was real-time - BAM. I would be curled up with like, umm, sand in my eyes...

Cooke really is an idiot. Really hope he gets a big suspension for this. Thanks OP for posting so that I can hate Cooke more.

I actually give Cooke the benefit of the doubt on this one, both guys getting their sticks up and Cookes kind of rides up Webers arm.

Cooke is dirty but don't think he was dumb enough to try and piss Weber off here.

He doesn't get that privilege anymore. He's been the dirtiest player in the league for the last decade, the NHL needs to make a statement and give him a lifetime ban already

The only play I legitimately think Cooke deserves the benefit of the doubt on was the Erik Karlsson thing. Other than that, the guy is a total piece of trash.

Agreed. It also looks like Cooke's blade catches Weber's which propels his hands forward.

Not sure how to imbed this:

Maybe it's unintentional to hit the face, maybe not. Maybe he's just trying to parry Webers cross check. No matter how you spin it, Matt Cooke is still a giant turd and Shea Weber is a great hero for laying a sound beating on him.

Man, I can't believe the amount of people in here making excuses for Cooke. The guy should have been out of the league years ago. If he suffers a career-ending injury I don't think other NHLers bat an eye.

I'm not one to wish ill will on a person normally, but I will celebrate the man that cleanly takes Cooke down and out.

What a pathetic, disgusting, over the line comment.

As someone who will never walk again comments like this really makes me sick

Da_Chief is on a real roll today. Mocking a mentally challenged Jets fan, wishing permanent injury on someone.

What a real winner.

Was the mentally challenged part really necessary? I think Jets fan would have been enough.
