If just clicking and swinging wasn't fun for you there's lots of different options for combat. Be a Mage and use exclusively spells, there's an endless amount of magic you can learn. Or do what I've been doing and use a bow and dagger and level up in sneaking.

I recently played the Dragonborn expansion and I liked it, it added some decent storyline and solid new armor/weapons/items
I stopped playing when I couldn't win any battles anymore. Too hard for me

A big part of staying competitive is improving your gear. Both through crafting and enchanting. You can't do it just by leveling up, or at least it's a lot harder.

Though if you get good at crafting, it kinda gets too easy.

Anyone still playing this game?

I was playing a bunch 6-7 months ago and have recently started again. (I had played it before also)

I play it on the PS3, so no Mods. Its still such a fun game.

I've never finished it, but I plan to finsh the game this time around + buy and finish the downloadable content.

Been playing this since January....
I'm playing it on PC and steam, so there are a bunch of great mods and I bought the ultimate edition so all the DLC is included. Just so much content to go through. Haven't even finished the main quest yet.

I've been late to the party on this one too.. picked it up about a month ago for xbox 360.

My first crack at it and am resisting temptation to look up too many tips and tricks lol. Right now I'm trying to thief around with a bow and arrow. Sometimes it works great and sometimes I get schooled pretty hard. Fun though

I'm still (slowly) working through the Dragonborn DLC.

Enjoy the difficulty while it lasts. For me, I love being a "maker" and crafting/enchanting my own gear. Once you have this skill levelled up, only bosses will pose much of a challenge, even on legendary.

Same here Mick. I loved getting dragons come down and land and my feet and I sliced them up while barely being touched.

Wasn't hard enough, so I got mods to make it harder. Almost wish I hadn't though, as I never finished the game.

Can't wait

Bought a gift for the wife and slipped this game into the order - will give it a go over Christmas (PS3).

Reading up a bit about it online before starting to play as seems so extensive and wanted to get off on the right foot, so to speak.
Any hints/tips from CPers on starting out?
(ie race/character choices/styles of play, etc)

I had a great time playing as a 2 handed sword Nord. A tip I have would be to gather as many plants and kill as many animals as you can find. Those are useful for increasing your smithing/alchemy skills.

I picked up the Legendary Edition with all the DLC on GMG for $13, spent all day looking up mods and adding them

Wow it's seriously like a new game, and I have it looking incredible. I played hundreds of hours on PS3 probably, and I'm probably going to do the same again now on PC

It's so satisfying walking around seeing lush grass, HD trees, real looking water and realistic lighting from fire and the sun. I used to fast forward through night all the time, now I've been stopping and looking at the stars, the fires and lit up buildings miles away. It's even better than I was expecting. The draw distance is the best part, seeing whiterun from the other side of the map is awesome

The UI was for sure made for consoles, so I've been using the modded skyUI, much better

I wish I wasn't busy with the Christmas rush and working 12+ hours a day, all I want to do is play skyrim more haha

the battlegrounds mod and the more dragons mod makes it one of the coolest looking games ever. Hundreds of warriors fighting, dozens of mages and dozens of dragons all on screen at once is just about the best thing I've ever seen in any game.

I've found this to be a good guide/walkthrough.

Amazing game, but definitely a time-mucher.
