From a financial standpoint, it made less sense to send Berra down. His contract is one way, Pickard's is two. They get more cap room sending down Pickard.

I get it. Me too.

But guess what, wish in one hand and defecate in the other and see which one fills up first.

Jay Bouwmeester had an almost $7M cap hit when he was here, and still has a cap hit of $5.4M.

His current deal is more palatable especially when Wideman's pay is taken into consideration, but he wasnt being paid 3rd Dman money, he was being paid #1 dman money and in that regard he didnt deliver.

And I'm one of the people that really liked him when he was here.

Sure, now that money is no object it doesnt seem like such a big deal, but one day money is going to be an object again and when that day comes everyone is going to have to be worth their pay.

They would have saved in actual dollars spent but in terms of cap space, they would have saved more by sending Berra down:

Cap hit of berra up and Pickard down:
$1.45 mil cap hit

Cap hit of Berra down and Pickard up
$1.45 mil - $.925m buired + $.813m pickard = $1.338 mil cap hit

Makes sense. Packard needs to play. With varly coming back the backup won't see many games. Never understood why they wanted to pay Berra so much money , when he was going to be lucky to get 20 games a year.

Roy was on the radio and ripped Berra while answering a question about Pickard. Said he is not happy with Berra and doesn't think Berra is working hard enough in practice and is not hungry and their confidence is in Pickard.

I'd be annoyed too. Berra has all the tools just needs to work at honing his skills but he doesn't seem to want

Ouch. Roy sure has been ripping on his players in the media lately.

You mistakenly used future tense. I'm pretty sure it already has worn out.

Default Reto Berra to the Avs for a *2014 2nd round pick*

As per Roy, Berra will be sent to the AHL.

Unsure if he will be exposed to waivers or sent as "conditioning" so they can call up Pickard.

Roy really seems to hate Berra right now.

Edit: Appears he's being "conditioned"

@MikeChambers: Corrected: Calvin Pickard scheduled starter Tuesday at Carolina. Reto Berra will report to Lake Erie of AHL for "conditioning" #Avs.

Judging by where the Avs are in the standings I would say they have already tuned him out.

What's wrong with Hunter Smith?

Who would you have picked over Hunter Smith at that point?

With a ton more talent. The Flames are hardly the bar for success.

That's mount my point. I'm saying they're almost in the playoffs now and playing well. To suggest they are playing poorly because they've tuned out Roy is wrong

They were a dozen points back of us at one point and are 9-3-2 in their last 14. Belittling the Flames doesn't change the fact that the suggestion the Avs have tuned out Roy is fairly absurd.

The Avs should be near the top of the standings given the talent they have.
