Consider ensuring you level up your Vanguard rank to level 3 before ranking up a faction (FWC, New Monarchy, Dead Orbit). In order to buy good stuff from the vendors, you need to be level 2 or 3. The best way to earn experience to do daily bounties. But wait! You actually earn that XP when you cash in the bounties. So when in the tower, before walking up to cash in the bounties, swap out your fully levelled gear for some that could use the XP. Then cash in the bounties.

Note that you also get huge XP for missions (e.g. daily missions), and the weekly strikes. If you are really quick, you can kill the last guy for the mission, then quickly open up the menu and swap to your unlevelled gear. Sometimes you get a 2 or 3 second window before the mission is actually completed.

So again, this little trick should be obvious after a while, but if you are just getting into the game, this is hugely helpful to get the armour upgraded and the gun perks unlocked quickly.

Another issue with the other factions is that you can only buy gear with Crucible marks, which take much longer to obtain than Vanguard Marks. Something like 5 marks per win, 2 for losses?

Also, a really easy way to get marks besides the nightfall, weekly, dailies, and strike list is go just chase public events. You get 4 marks for gold tier completions, which are fairly easy. You can chase them up using http://destinypublicevents.com/. They're also pretty frequent, so you should see them pretty often when running patrol missions.

Also, a little too late for you guys, but bounties are a sure fire way to get to level 20 really fast. I just got my warlock to 20 in like 3 days running Vanguard, Crucible and Eris bounties, with no gear help from my other 2 chars. Might be good to know for your future alts though (and yes FYI you can do Eris bounties as soon as you hit Lv 4. Just gotta dismiss the main mission first. Some of my buddies didn't know that).

Just run Fist of Crota mission of few times. Drive past everyone on the outside and just take out the first knight inside. I've already dismantled like 3 or 4 of these already lol.

First vog completion today. Got the vault cloak, a bunch of shards and energies, and a chatterwhite. Definitely a lot of fun.
It helps when you're level 31 and running the normal raid.
hopefully I can run it again tomorrow.

Congrats! It's definitely one of the more satisfying events I've had in gaming. Hard mode is a slightly different animal, but definitely worth a go if you're at 31. Might be worth it to run normal a couple more times to get the timing right. Also be aware that if you run it again with the same character, you will not get anymore items from chests or checkpoints this week. If you run it in hard mode, you'll get an extra drop from boss kill and the first Gorgon chest, but that's it. If you run hard mode fresh in a week, you'll get double drops for doing it, so you don't need to run both normal and HM in a week.

Just be aware that the double drop can sometimes be duplicates. Many have gotten drops of the same armor or weapon, which is frustrating because bungie is insane.

Is it worthwhile to get it for a 360? or should I bite the bullet and get an XB1 or PS4?

Ran it again today, I don't care about the drops, as much as getting more comfortable.
Went well.
I also ran crota for the first time today.
after the first part with weight of darkness, I had no clue what i was doing. No one I was with had a mic, so I was just following, and hoping for the best. Definitely pretty tough.
Got to the death singer though.

From the Christmas package I got a Devil You Don't hand cannon that'll be a decent weapon for my hunter, but no big deal.

Did Crota a couple times this afternoon and got a Red Death and a Thunderlord, though. Merry Xmas! ;D

Got a Badger CCL, but I already had a maxed version with better stats (firefly is the best perk ever).
Gave me some energies to upgrade Another NiTC partially.

I got a One Way Ticket 000. I already have the solar version. This one is a void. Needed a rocket launcher to keep handy on my new Warlock anyway, so I'm happy with it.

Honestly thought I would start putting away this game after Tuesday but still finding myself playing it, although not as intensively everyday.

Yet still planning my gear for the next round of Iron Banner and seeing what kind of ideal weapon rolls I want etc. Able to hit 32 with my warlock, still hoping to get gear for the rest of my characters at some point.

Also of note, they're moving the exotic drop from the first chest to Ir Yut, which makes a lot of sense.

It bugs me that rather then fix the game, they seem to concentrate on fixing the cheese in the raid. While yes, players need to be able to do the raid legit, it just seems there is so much more they could be concentrating on.
