I did when I was younger, and usually didn't eat breakfast as a result. Not really the most healthy way of doing it.

Interesting. I've never heard of anyone doing that before.

Why You Should Start Eating Cereal Before Bed
Quote:
If you think eating cereal before bed is a perfect snack, then you’ll want to avoid highly sweetened cereals and ideally opt for those that are unsweetened. You can always add a teaspoon of honey yourself so that you have control over how much sugar you’re getting with your bowl of cereal. Next, if you’re going to be eating cereal before bed, you want to make sure that your cereal is made from whole grains
It doesn’t really matter what the whole grains are—wheat, kamut, quinoa, buckwheat, oat—just as long as you avoid refined grains and processed flours.
|
Quote:
[Another consideration before eating cereal before bed is the amount that you eat. Resist the temptation to have a big bowl of cereal. Instead, keep portions small. You want your stomach to have a little food in it, but not be struggling to digest a whole mountain of cereal. A half a bowl of cereal before bed should leave you feeling comfortably “full” but still allow you to fall into a deep sleep.
And finally, there’s the matter of what to have with your cereal, when you’re eating cereal before bed. Milk could be a good choice, even though it’s a protein, because milk contains tryptophan. Tryptophan will help to give you that “sleepy” feeling, making it easier for you to drift off to sleep as soon as you lie down. For those who have trouble digesting dairy, obviously you’ll want to stay away from milk. Try some rice milk, almond milk or soy milk instead. Again—keep the portions small.

Not so much anymore, but yes as a kid I had nighttime cereal often. Something about it is the perfect pre-sleep snack.

All the time, I rarely have it in the morning now. Waffles are also a night time option.

Trytophan and Sleepiness is a myth. Most likely it is due to the fact you ate half a turkey, 2 helpings of mashed pototes, a cup of stuffing and had a bottle of wine.
http://blogs.webmd.com/sleep-disorde...-or-false.html
AS for Milk.. the Tryptophan is not making you sleepy. You would need 40lbs of turkey to get enough Tryoptophan to make you sleepy and Milk has even less.
You are just Pavlov Dogging yourself with the Warm Glass of Milk.

Cereal is its own food group and not subject to the social confines of "meal times and types"

Not cereal, but cinnamon toast. But only when I was a kid. Haven't continued that into adulthood, nor with my own family.

It's comforting to know there are others.
I've been loving Just Right (that's the name of the cereal) lately. Highly recommend. And when I'm feeling rich I buy Kashi's puffed wheat cereal. That stuff is awesome, but it's like $7 for a super small box.

Milk kills me as well. We switched to Silk Almond Milk which gives it a nice sweet taste and is cheap @ costco. Love cereal before bed and have been doing it for years. Great snack idea.
