One thing about Craig Button is that he isn't afraid to go against the grain.

Sprong seems to have fallen out of favour with him though. I wonder what the deal is there.

There are stories about Sprong's father going around. Not surprised he is dropping.

Rantanen's jumped up to 11. His WJC performance helped out his stock.

It'd be crazy if Hanifin fell further throughout the rest of the season, I'd Love Love LOVE for him to be a Flame.

Sprong also dropped out of the ISS top 30.

The Flames would need to have another large tumble down the standings for that to happen. We are probably gonna finish in the dreaded 9th spot in the west aka the "Flames spot"

Allegedly, he has some Randy Marsh anger issues. People have claimed to see him get in fights in the stands with the parents of other players.

The way the Flames are starting to look, I don't think it's crazy to think they can end up with one of the big defenders in the top 10. I'd love for the Flames to end up with one of Kylington or Hannafin or Werenski and then someone like Sprong in the second.

This site has the Flames drafting Rantanen which would be pretty awesome too.

Basically crazy hockey dad. Got into fights with parents. Yelled at his son's teammates if they didn't pass his son the puck. Even told and forced his son to start taking pucks away from teammates who he felt was holding his son back.

Rumor is Sprong was blacklisted from AAA hockey in Quebec because his father got into a fight with a former NHLer that was heavily involved in the program. Sprong was forced to play in Espoir before going to the QMJHL.

Would not be disappointed that if we missed out on the big 3 Mitch Marner slid to us. He is having a great year with London and has continued to excel when Domi played in the World Juniors.

Marner is a top five pick. Do you think the Flames will be picking top five? If you don't, then I wouldn't get my hopes up on Marner.

No I think realistically at this point we are looking in the 9-12 range. However, these are rankings that ebb and flow and often do not identically mirror the opinion of GM's on draft day. I realize he is ranked higher than that, that is why I mentioned him sliding to us, stranger things have happened as I certainly did not believe Bennett would be available at 4 for us last year.

I don't think Marner is going to drop. There's the size thing, but it's obviously less of an issue every year and 2 PPG in his draft year. He's having an insane season, and his 16 year old season last year was pretty good too. Him and Hanifin will jostle for 3 I believe.

As ice cube suggested, I will certainly not get my hopes up. Just wishful thinking. Thing about Marner is that his older brother was late growing as well( do not remember where I read that), so if he is anything like his brother fully grown he may end up over 6 feet at the end of the day

He's not tiny, he's just NHL small. If his season stays like this it won't affect his draft slot at all.

Question from someone who doesn't follow junior hockey much if at all. Is McDavid so good that you simply have to take him given the chance, or could a team already stocked up on offensive prospects be better served to turn that first overall into 2 or 3 first round picks to stock up on defense? With this being the first year of every non-playoff team able to win the #1 pick, looking at the current non-playoff teams a very visible trend is teams that don't have much trouble scoring goals but a very hard time keeping them out of their own net. Toronto for example has the 2nd best offense in the league, would they really be better served with McDavid on the roster vs. filling out their weak defensive prospect pool if they won the lottery?

I remember a few months ago Button saying he wouldn't be surprised to see Hanifin fall past the top 7-8 spots. He wasn't as high on him as most others. Will be interesting to see if scouts and gm's agree.

Sorry no link, I heard it on the radio

You have to take him.
