i'm pissed off that someone could pull off an attack like this and drive away humming a tune.
I Think it's time for big changes in the free world, we can't just keep living hoping this s#$$ doesn't happen. Don't know what the answer is. what do we have to do, armed soldiers standing on every corner? jesus
One cancels out the other. Personally I'd rather take the miniscule chance of being gunned down by a religious nut job over surrendering all personal freedoms and liberty

Even if you had a person on every street corner armed with a rifle, would they be prepared and would they actually be able to do anything? How would they know that someone had entered a building with malicious intent (assuming they aren't trotting around with a rifle out)?

Does it take away liberty? As we know in post-Snowden world, intelligence is watching your every move - and personally I am ok with that, as long as they do not interfere with me. In a way it is like driving a car - the police is tracking your speed, cameras watch that you don't run the red light and such - and it doesn't come across as a sort of freedom restriction.

Exactly. Is this not what is going on within the States right Now. I don't want Canada to get in this sort of State unless, It is the only way to protect us.

I don't know how you are okay with this. It's the equivalent of having a stalker.

It isn't that they are listening to you and me that is dangerous, it's that they listen to the politicians and business men, union leaders etc, most of us have a few secrets, an affair or the like, at that point they control your world, who runs for office, business competition everything.
It effectively becomes a police state ala El Salvador without you even knowing it.

More people are killed by snowmobiles in canada than any bleeding terrorists,
12 dead isn't even a noteworthy school shooting by US standards and yet we want to lose our s*** over it.

I get what you are trying to say, but really?
Bring this up again when 3 Snowmobiles take Kalashnikovs into a school and shoot some kids.
Accidents with equipment, school shootings and targeted religious ideological attacks are very separate things.

Of course they are, but you don't throw out your civil liberties out because something horrible, but ultimately minor has happened. Let's be frank, far worse happened in Alberta last week but do we jump to suspend habeus corpus because some scumbag kills his family?

What do you mean? That was only 8 people, I'm surprised it even made the news.

Umm... No. Very much no.
You're just overreacting in the same way you accuse Flames Gimp of doing.
It's definitely a cliche, but then "the terrorists win". I don't pretend to know what these lunatics are ultimately after, but changing our society has got to be a part of it.
Personally, I am not convinced yet that this specific attack yesterday was part of a larger plot. It could very well just be the result of 2 individuals from a particular religious/ethnic minority that snapped after being continually bullied and harassed. That magazine doesn't just taunt extremist Muslims, but it is down right racist to Muslims and Arabs. IMO, they cross the line between being non-conformist free speech activists to being bigots often.
We see violent incidents like this all the often. People feel like society is somehow destroying them and they lash out. For example, a few years ago, there was a shooting in Montreal where a man who believed that feminists were holding him back, went to an all woman college and murdered a bunch of women. There are numerous other examples throughout history.
Unless the people responsible issued some type of statement to the contrary, I think it's too early to assume anything about the intent. If they went into Playboy magazine or something and shot the place up, I would be more inclined to think that it was just an anti-west type of attack, but in this case I think it is just as likely that the 2 guys went "postal" (hate answered with hate).
Obviously nothing justifies murder, but I am surprised that so many people are being supportive of the repugnant cartoons that this magazine makes.

Really? At the end of the day, nobody forces anyone to read them. If you don't like a picture, don't look at it. Don't like literature, don't read it. Regardless of liking it or not, they have every right to produce it.
