Bennett is ridiculously determined. He was a force in the preseason with a shoulder requiring surgery, he forced himself to be able to do chin ups with a bad shoulder. He'll need a leash to slow him down, coach will have to kick Sam off the ice after practice. He might be the steal of the century if he reaches his potential.

I could see plenty of harm in having an 18 year old coming of major shoulder surgery, who plays balls-to-the-wall hard, going up against grown men in the Western Conference who are in mid-season form when he hasn't played a single game since pre-season. He's already been travelling with the team so he has had a first hand view of what the NHL is all about. Of course management knows better then any of us what the best choice is, but I see no harm in sending him back to Junior as soon as he is ready. As an internet keyboard warrior, IMO I could see plenty going wrong if he starts playing against grown adults in the midst of a playoff push. But again, I trust Hartley and staff to make the best choice for everyone involved.

Yup, I bet his attitude and determination is infectious and it he is a great kid to have around the locker room, no matter if it is in the CHL, AHL or NHL.

I would be very surprised if he didn't get his 9 games with Calgary.

Agreed. i just don't see any reason whatsoever to contemplate him being on the flames team this season. Rehab here, but when he's ready to get back into game action he should be with his juniour team, really getting back on track, hopefully part of the CHL playoffs, and focusing on what will put him in the best position to be 100% making a case to be an NHL'er come training camp.

There is no need to be impatient with him right now, and even if he showed enough to make the flames this camp, the returning from major surgery, the fact that he hasn't played in 3 or so months, makes it clear that facing NHL players in midseason form is likely not a good idea. Like i'm nervous about how backlund will do and whether he'll be re-injured, and he's an NHLer, so Bennet is still a ways away in my opinion.

He definitely deserves at least 9 games to get a taste. If he does pick up right where he left off, that would be huge. Could you imagine picking up another top 6 forward, that would be huge for the playoff push.

I don't think there's any way he sees NHL playing time this year. Look at how hard it is for seasoned vets to come back from injury. They usually take 5ish games to get back on track. Bennett has nowhere near that experience, I think a conditioning stint in Adirondack and then juniors is the best move here.

Hartley seems to love him, wouldn't at all be surprised if he plays when he's healthy.

I have faith in the trainers and medical personnel as well. If they clear him and he's physically ready, I won't be surprised if he's in the lineup for 9 games, no stint in Adirondack.

Put me in the camp who doesn't think a few games of fan excitement is worth the risk of a teenager coming off a half-season injury playing against grown men in mid-season form.
