Updated to BB100 yesterday before they got rid of it. Still tossing around the idea of switching to Telus but losing my @shaw.ca email would be a pain in the ass

When I switched that was by far the biggest pain in the ass. Luckily after I realized Telus was crap and switched back, my email address was still tied to my old Shaw account so they were able to reactivate it

If I could find data caps like the BB100+ Plan (750GB) I would switch.

For Telus, 100mbps and 750gb would be $138/month

That price is probably $99 now. And the speed is not lowering on existing plans.

They aren't raising prices and lowering speeds. They are raising prices for existing accounts and offering different speeds with different prices for new accounts.

Well the packages finally came out and you can either look at it in two ways, either a decrease in speed or a massive increase in price. If I make any changes on my account including canceling Shomi (which I am trying) I will be force to take a 40Mbps down / 2 Mbps up / 100GB bandwidth hit and for all of that they will get rid of the 10% increase...

So yes the original leak of both price increases and speed decreases was the most accurate, Shaw's spin was just that marketing spin.

So Shaw Internet 60/400GB cap for $90 or Telus 100/500 for $93?

This seems like a highly uncompetitive move by Shaw.

Ya unless Telus doesn't serve your house

Is it time to switch back to Telus? I was with Telus for years until earlier this summer I switched to Shaw.

I've been with Shaw for over 10 years, and have contemplated switching every now and then to save a few bucks. I know Shaw it pretty lenient with their caps, and rarely enforce them (personally, I have never been charged for exceeding the bandwidth cap). But how is Telus on that front? Are they strict with their bandwidth caps? If so, what happens? Extra charges? throttled Internet speeds?

Not sure about Telus, but apparently Shaw is going to be stricter about caps in 2015

It's a lot more accurate than the dart board method it used to be.

No, that leaked statement is spin. Existing customers have the same packages at an increased price. New customers get new packages at new pricing.

The leaked statement made it seem like all customers were paying more and having speeds reduced. Existing customers can choose between a higher price *or* a speed reduction. Not and, or.

Can ISPs make streaming with their "own" service (Shomi for Shaw/Rogers) exempt from bandwidth caps? That could be one incentive to clamp down on bandwidth because it would make it more difficult for a competitor like Netflix to operate.

It is anti-competitive and probably illegal, but we are talking about the Canadian telecom/cable/wireless vertically-integrated conglomerates here...
