Flames Prospects!
The only player the Flames have the rights to at this tournament is:
*** Russia Defenceman #7 Rushan Rafikov (7th round pick 2013) ***
Rafikov is tied for 6th in defenceman scoring.
Playoff Bracket
Leading Scorers
Bronze Medal: Sweden vs Slovakia - 2 pm MT
Always tough for players to be mentally prepared for this game after their gold medal dreams were taken away from them yesterday.
Can Godla give 2 back to back all heart performances and lead the Slovaks to a medal?
The Swedes looked awful against the Russians after pretty much offensively dominating everyone else. There was a stomach bug running through some of their players early on in the tournament, and you have to wonder if it still working its way through the team.
Gold Medal: Canada vs Russia - 6pm MT
Perhaps a blessing in disguise the Canadians struggled a bit in the 1st period against Slovakia. A little bit of adversity is probably what they needed to prepare for the Russians. The Russians have size and grit and seem to play to their opponent's level.
Also likely the last time Flames fans will get to watch Rafikov in an actual game scenario until he decides to come to North America. He plans to attend Flames development camp this summer, but if he re-ups in Russia, he won't play in Penticton or whatever rookie tournament the Flames will play (the hockey season in Russia will have already started).

I could see Rafikov coming to NA when you consider Russia's impending financial crisis.

There is no circumstance where I consider it a win to watch anyone beat Canada in international play. I hope Rafikov is a -10 on the night.

It's not like he said "Excited to see Russia beat Canada". He gets to cheer for Canada to win, while seeing a Flames prospect play.

Have watched all the games and remember the "drafting Nick Ritchie" rumours that were out there in the summer. So glad we didn't. He has not impressed me at all. Hard to believe that he beat out a guy like DalColle to make this team.

Calm yourself.
All I was saying was I am excited to see a Flames' prospect on the other end of the ice, while watching TC play as well. Man you must be having a rough morning, aren't you?

It's Junior hockey.
My alligence to the Flames >>>>>>>>> My alligence to a kids tournament
I'd love to see Rafikov score 10.
If Canada wins that's also great, but I'd be far more excited if Rafikov had some crazy break out game.

Tell that to the country they are in the midst of invading. Hockey aside as a country they are no different than pre 1991.
Also, Russian is no good.

Yeah, I hate the Russians as much as anyone, but I want to see Rafikov to do well. I'd definitely still prefer Canada to win, but I want him to have a great game.

This line of thinking is a little perplexing.
If Rafikov was a high pick and top prospect it'd be a little more reasonable, but still pretty strange. But the guy's a 7th round pick -- it's highly likely he never sees any level of professional ice time in North America at all, let alone with the Flames, whether he has a great game today or not.

Top prospect or not, you always hope you get the best out of every Flames prospect.
I think we can also all agree that Rafikov has been playing better than a 7th round pick, we all had low expectations for him.

I agree.. a couple years back I cheered for USA because Johnny Hockey (and I think Sieloff) was on the team.
I am a Flames fan more than a Team Canada fan.. Olympics are the only time I cheer for Canada over a Flame.
Although I have to admit, as discussed above, when it is a lower profile player it makes it more difficult on the head to head matchups vs Canada..

I'd like Canada to win by a 9-8 score, with Rafikov getting 8 points and lighting up Nurse with a huge open ice hit that makes him play like J. Schultz for the rest of his career. He'll still get a 6x6 deal from Edmonton...
