Definitely a much better response on his part. Sounds like he isn't as fragile mentally and that is helping him get to the next step. Very good to hear.

If Sven can turn into a legit top 6 player in the NHL that would be huge for the team. I'm kind of on the fence with him but updates like this definitely give you hope that he will put it together.

Glad to see him doing well. I'm a baertschi fan for sure and I think he can be a huge part of this team. I can just see the fanbase and management one day being grateful they were patient with his development and stuck with him. I would love to eventually see a top six like this if everything panned out:

Baertschi-Monahan-Poirier
Gaudreau-Bennett-hudler

When we drafted him I thought he was going to be a good 2nd line scoring threat.

The season after we drafted him my expectations were exceeded & I thought he could be a 1st line player. Hovering around 2.0 PPG in the WHL and scoring frequently in an NHL call-up, I thought he could definitely be the player to build around.

Now a couple of seasons later my expectations have come back to Earth, and I think he'll be an excellent 2nd line player – just as I thought when we drafted him.

Yes, he could have a future with the Flames still. It just depends what is offered for him or other prospects that are losing their waiver eligibility. I figure Sven, Reinhart, Granlund and Ferland will more or less be fighting for the same job next year. If Sven is the best of the bunch or if one (or more) of them are moved he could still have a future with the team.

I think Reinhart's days with the Flames are close to being done. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a throw-in on a deal at the trade deadline or sooner. I think Granlund and Ferland have shown they are capable of playing various roles in the NHL so they will have an inside track on jobs next year. Baertschi will have to step his game up and show he can be a very rounded player capable of scoring in the professional ranks on a consistent basis. The only role he really fits in is a top line LW, and his lack of size may hurt those chances. I'd like to see him on a line with Monahan and Colborne for an extended period and see how he does. If he doesn't score with those two, it's probably time to move on.

Sven has upped his game since returning to Adirondack and is clearly intent on showing that he belongs in the NHL. We could certainly use another creative player and I hope it will be him.

But hes got the moves like Jager Jagr.

It looks like Sven is the definition of swagger right now. From what I've seen in recent highlights, he's making confident plays and skating smoothly out there.

Sven has a long way to go to be a fulltime NHL player on any team. He lacks the swagger and intensity NHL players have. If your not lighting it up in the AHL, your not going to light it up at the NHL level.

He has raw talent, and thats about it. If he deserved the be in the NHL, he would be. Looks at guys like Monahan and Gaudreau. First and second seasons, and both playing unreal. You notice them out there. They have that top end potential that Sven lacks. You don't notice Sven out there.

Have the Flames given up on him? I would say no, or not yet. I wish Sven could have turned out to be all some people thought he would be, but it has not been the case. It doesn't always work out the way you think it will.

Not a lot of people thought Gaudreau was going to be an Elite player at the NHL level. 150 pounds soaking wet, but the guy has what it takes.

I hope the Flames leave him in the AHL for the remainder of the season so he can build on this and come to camp next year with more confidence.

Either way. Adirondack Flames are a really good squad, but getting a call-up is good for the confidence too.

I'm surprised how many people have lost faith in Baertschi, I'm still confident he'll make the jump.

Think flames have to call him up sometime this season. They need to see the swagger he is displaying in the AHL right now translates to the nhl. Don't forget that Sven has to pass waivers next year. If there's any chance they don't think Sven can make team next year, and also not pass waivers, then they would probably be better off trading him in a package deal between now and next year.

All that said, I hope Sven gets called up and shows the flames he belongs full time next year.

If the Flames are in the playoff mix or not I hope they go into a bit of a seller mode with some older forwards simply to make room for an extended look at some younger players.

If we were in 9th place going into March 2nd I would no problem with Glencross, Raymond, Bollig, Stajan, or Jones being moved for picks or prospects and bring up Sven, Porier, Ferland, Arnold etc to fill their spots

A little call up near the end would be a good reward and probably boost the confidence a little

It'd be a nice reward for a lot of those guys (prospects or not) who've done good very work in obscurity down on the farm.

Good for Sven, but very clear that he's got a lot to do to gain the trust/benefit of the doubt back from Hartley.

I kind of want to see him on a line with Bennett-Poirer next year and shelter the crap out of them and let Monahan/Backs/Stajan lines handle the tougher assignments and let them get the good offensive chances. Seems him and Emile have developed some chemistry and with Bennett as well he won't have to be the as physical.

Of course this is dependent on so many variables but its my dream haha.

I've said this on Fireside Chat before, but I think Sven's career goes in a similar direction to that of Jamie Lundmark. He'll probably end up being a guy who will bounce from team-to-team and be the AHL veteran for most of his team, and the first call-up or the extra forward on weaker teams.

I am not saying they're the same type of player, but will have a similar career.
