Looks like he had a great game. Happy to hear it. Would love it if he starts tearing it up on the farm team so he can get the next call up when an injury happens. Also hope if he can get his scoring touch going he gets to play higher up the lineup on his next call up.
Great to see Baertschi have a good first game back in the AHL. Hopefully this isn't like an Edmonton Oiler winning streak and continues for more than one game. We need Baertschi to turn into a game changer.
^ Love that from Sven. Definite shift in mentality from previous interviews after send downs. Hope he lights it up.
Yeah, he finally learned how to talk to the media here, just tell em what they want to hear, be unfailingly humble and grateful and the rumors go away.

All prospects develop differently. For Sven, he's one to be patient with. Playing in Adirondack the rest of the year should benefit him greatly. He looks to be motivated to get another call up, but I wouldn't be surprised for management to season him in the AHL the rest of the year.
Fun to speculate and I don't blame people for looking at trends to try to predict what Sven will be but we just don't know.
Look at Filip Forsberg as an example. Can anyone here or anywhere have predicted he would be a point per game player in the NHL this season based on what he did the last two seasons?
His career NHL stats before this season began were 1g, 5a in 18 gp
His career AHL stats are 15g, 19a in 47gp
Jooris is another example of why you give your prospects time to develop and the opportunity to succeed. If you keep the door open for these guys, why in the world would you give up on a guy with a WHL career and previous NHL and AHL numbers like Sven who additionally has shown a commitment to bulking up and developing other areas of his game?
Sven is still a prospect with a lot of potential. Let's hope he reaches it.
He's going to be better served playing a prominent role in the AHL than playing 4th line minutes with pluggers for the Flames.
A poor workman blames his tools. I will give you Bollig. But he also played with Byron, who produced more when put with others, and with Jooris, who has produced well, and he was on the ice. Bouma has points. Then there's the fact he played with 4 d-men who are skilled. And even Setoguchi, while not producing in the NHL, is reportedly a star in Addy.
I don't think 4th line duty was a bad thing for Sven at all. It forced him to play with more energy, and now hopefully that energy stays there as he gets back into a scoring role.
The good part of going to Addy is more ice time and more confidence (he mentioned confidence again which I'm not sure is great, but whatevs). He may get back some of his middle of the ice play - even when he was playing with energy here, he was mainly along the boards.
The bad part is that my main critique was that he seemed to be a step behind mentally - not thinking quickly enough to make the best play in time. His best play (the long stretch pass to Byron) came when he had time to think. In Addy he will have time to think, but will he develop NHL speed? Or is that better developed on a lower NHL line?
This is the swagger Sven is playing with right now in Adirondack
This is also a quote from Huska last night about Sven

Baertschi's personality has completely changed. He's having fun in practice, he's upbeat and he's got his swagger. He was not like this at the beginning of the year. Hopes it continues and his game is rewarded for it.

Yea, that's Dash. He has his own twitter at @FlamesDash
He managed to create his own controversy when he didn't wear a jersey last game and parents were questioning why he was naked. Cause apparently 6 foot tall mascot dalmatians need to be wearing a jersey in order to be decent.

I think we all want Sven to break out in the NHL i think he is worth investing more time in but my gut tells me Sven for whatever reason mentally or character wise just doesn't have it at the NHL level.
Sven has not consistently battled for his space on the ice while being called up and that is his weakness.

That huska quote speaks to a lot to this. Since his initial call up I think the kid has some high expectations to produce that has eaten away at his positivity and enjoyment of the game ever since.
Love hearing that his vibe and mood are positive and is getting results.... Chicken and egg i suppose (results create positivity vs positivity create results), but if there's a kid I think needs to hit a stint on a roll and feeling good about himself, baertchi is it. I really think his career path would be much different if early year posts and missed opportunities found the back of the net and built up his confidence a bit.
I agree that he has shown some fragility, but I'd love to see what kind of pro game he really has when he's got some mojo going.
Hey Drury18, thanks for the posts and updates! You're a champ!
And if ANYONE here thinks that Sven spending time in the AHL isn't a waste of time they are out to lunch! And enjoying the best lunch choice they could possibly make!
