I wouldn't even have listed Sean in my top 5 last year.

If Hutch gets over 35 or so starts this year for the Jets and continues to lead the league in save %, I cant imagine how he doesn't win the Calder.

Lots to be determined on that however. Will he A) get the starts needed and B) keep his numbers up where they are. Either way a nice story for the Jets and finally someone to put pavelec out of work

Hutch plays in Winnipeg. No one in New York will ever take notice.

IMO he needs to hit 45, 35 just isn't enough when you're competing against guys who are playing on the top lines of their respective teams and lighting it up. You need to be atleast the 1A goaltender on your team and get half the starts.

well, we arent that far off i agree dan. but 45x2 is 90... i would say he needs to get around the 40ish games mark. if he gets to 35 and is the #1 in save %... i still say that's enough to win calder. lots of ifs tho

Why hasn't he had more starts this season Res? Save % excellent, 8 wins in 12 starts. Whilst Pavelec hasn't posted terrible stats despite the Jets fans on this board not rating him at all, it is baffling to see Hutchinson trailing Pavelec so much in games played.

Here is arguably the bench mark that Hutchinson needs to match:

Brodeur, 47 starts, 27-11-8, 2625, 105, 3, 2.40 GAA, .915 Sv %
Nabakov, 66 starts, 32-21-7, 3700, 135, 6, 2.19 GAA, .915 Sv %
Raycroft, 57 starts, 29-18-9, 3420, 117, 3, 2.05 GAA, .926 Sv%
Mason, 61 starts, 33-20-7, 3664, 140, 10, 2.29 GAA, .916%

Those are the season stats of the last 4 goalies to win the Calder in the seasons they won it.

Regardless of what Forsberg, Gaudreau and Ekblad do, for Hutchinson to even enter into the conversation, he has to get more starts and probably overtake Pavelec for games played. Unless he becomes the 1a guy, I doubt he wins the Calder.

The Jets organization is in love with Pavelec, at least Chevy is. He won a championship in the AHL with chevy with the Wolves and so he thinks he can just turn it around. It's really unbelievable when you consider pavs has been a 906 goaltender his entire career with the thrashers/Jets.

Point well made about the starts and previous winners, but, none of them were best in the league SV %. I took Raycroft as an example because that year Miikka had a 933 save % over 38 games. Raycroft had a very high sv % that year but not the best in the league.

I highly doubt Hutch finishes top in the league for sv %, but I also think the more he plays like this the less we will see of Pavs. It just seems unlikely for me that Hutch can get to 40ish games played. 35 is a real chance.

I hope Jets management will finally wake up, and anoint Hutch the #1 starter, come January. Pavelec sucks, and his career will likely be over in the NHL when his contract is up.

I'm wondering when Jets management will realize they have the most boring, mundane looking jerseys in the league, with an amazing option available.

I know before it made sense to make a new jersey for the sales, but now that a few years has passed, I'm pretty sure bringing back the old jersey style on the new jersey template will lead to a huge rush of sales for the Jets.

Boo

Yay

Just update it slightly to make it more modern and they'd fly off the shelves, and then the Jets wouldn't look so boring on TV. Their current jerseys aren't even that bad, and they're better when you look at them up close, but as far as seeing them in action, they just couldn't be more "meh".

Winnipeg always looks terrible. Also, neither jersey is special.

The old one is classic. A lot better than the current one for sure. I'd have to agree that they should make the switch.

And while I'm at it; Dallas, guys, you had the coolest jersey design in the league.
Certain teams like the Stars and Sharks seem to have a set number of years that they use a design before rebranding to capture that extra revenue. It's just really annoying when they get it right, but still stick to that schedule anyways.

Winnipeg's 80's and 90s jerseys are gorgeous. I can see them having them as the outdoor jerseys and they become so popular they go full time soon after.

Although the east vs. west bias is normally true, I don't think it will be for Johnny. Like one poster put, he had friends over who have never really watched hockey before, yet they were drawn to how Johnny plays. I think that will be and is true for anyone who watches him even the people voting on the award. So I am not so sure the usual bias will affect him.

Not a chance IMO.

1) goalies are in tough - they have to really impress in order to beat out point producers. And this year, we could have a couple guys over 60 points - only what, 2 of the last 6 years have had a 60 pointer?

2) he plays in Wpg. As a former STH in the Peg, I can say that. He won't get any attention from the eastern media. So again, he needs to do something special.

3) he pretty much has to continue to lead the league in some category. And that's a lot to ask if he plays more games.

IMO, he needs to take over the #1 job and play at least 50 games. AND he needs to continue to lead the league (in something). AND the Jets have to make the playoffs.

If all 3 happen, maybe he has a chance.

As a backup, he will be perceived to have many of his wins against lesser teams, rightly or wrongly.

Spoke too soon it seems, it looks like they are giving an assist on the OT goal to Forsberg. At least according to the NHL app they are.

I just seen they had 7 goals so went to check how many points Forsberg had and was pleasantly surprised he only had 1 assist. I was initially expecting something like a 3 or 4 point night.
