I'd say Byron. However, I thought Byron had a good game last night, so Raymond is probably scratched again tomorrow.

Unless Byron starts putting points up he will be in the pressbox watching other players play the PK and take the body while still chipping in the odd point.
Same for Bollig
Same for Raymond (who might be up in the box for a while)

Byron could use it the most, kid has a huge ceiling and could use a few games watching from up high. One of the fastest skaters I've ever seen, should be able to turn that into an offensive threat that keeps the defense weary of jumping into the play.

Like Byron but don't see a much higher ceiling then what he is now.

Energy guy, good forechecker. Not sure what more he could realistically improve on

I agree. I could see him have one year burying his breakaway chances, and then cashing in from some team for a 1year production that he would never replicate.

I like Byron, but on a team that's already undersized in its top 9, not sure there's room for such a small checker. He's a valuable bottom 6 piece on any team, the Flames should be actively shopping him for best return.

Josh Jooris is playing his first season in the NHL, he has tons of room to improve. Its his first season!
The guy is on pace to score 19 goals and he has missed a total of 10 games this season. So he currently has 9 goals in 29 games played. That puts him on a 25 goal pace if he was healthy and played all the games.
This guy is a huge addition to the Flames, and is well deserving of his spot. I would not be surprised at all if he scores 20 this season. He is always involved in the play.
As far as Byron is concerned, the guy could already have 15 goals if he has any finish or goal scoring talent whatsoever. Byron needs to learn how to shoot to score, instead of just hoping it will go in. Reminds me of Lombardi, the guy never had any finish, but got a lot of chances with his speed (when he wanted to).

Top 6 is crowded already and will only get more so as our AHL prospects develop, so not seeing Byron there. I'm not seeing him consistently in our bottom 6 long-term either. Hopefully he finds his scoring touch in the next few weeks and gets traded for a late round pick to a team that could actually give him the minutes.

I wouldn't say the Top 6 is crowded. Gaudreau, Hudler, Monahan and Glencross are the only guys you could call top 2 line players and including Glencross is generous.
In three years the top 6 will include: Gaudreau, Bennett, Monahan. Maybe Hudler if he's still around. Hopefully Poirier can be included.
Byron will never be a legit top 6 player in the NHL. He clearly doesn't have the hands to be one. He can be a respectable bottom 6 guy but the Flames have a lot of bottom 6 guys. Not sure if they have room for him long term.

I think it's pretty clear Byron needs to find an extra gear in order to find himself on this roster beyond this season. There's going to be an odd man out, and I could see someone also getting dealt at the deadline as everyone gets shuffled down. IMO jooris has done more than impressed and can't be moved. A big question is going to be how does Backlund fare when he comes back into the fold? I still think he's above Granlund, but how much longer does he fit in our top 9, with Jooris, Granlund and Bennett soon to be in the picture?
I like Backs a lot so I hope he comes in and does really well.

Soon as Backs is activated, Granlund gets reassigned to Adirondack.
I'd stick Backs between Johnny and Hudler at least to start, until he gets up to speed or Hartley decides to shuffle. They're probably our best possession players as well as packing a dynamite offensive punch.
Just like he played himself onto the team last year, Monahan played himself into the 1st line C role. So let him stay there for the time being unless his play drops off (which I don't foresee right now). Moneyhands continues to be a very pleasant surprise even when he's not potting goals.
It's a good problem to have. Either of the two can be interchangable in the top two lines.
Jooris makes for an excellent 3rd line C. He can play top 6 if needed but he'd look great in a 3rd line C role between Jones and Byron.

Neat article on Josh's Father Mark, sounds like he was ok at hockey.

^Wow! Some good sports DNA there.
So we can expect to have Jooris in a Flames jersey well into his 60's then?

Josh Jooris is this year's Marty Gelinas. Doesn't matter what his season stats are, come crunch time he is a superstar.

His offensive touch has quieted down, but Josh Jooris just gets it.
2nd line? 4th line? Center? Winger? PP? PK?
Doesn't matter, he knows what he needs to do out there at all times.
