He's earning it this year...
...but holy macaroni, this has a significant risk attached to it. Still better than the Clowe/Clarkson deals.

Never scored 20 goals in a season. Gets a 30+ million contract. Sounds about right.

Yeah, he's having a fantastic year, but it's also fair to point out this is hugely odd given his history. He's been in the league now for 6 full seasons and has never been able to produce at this level. Risky for sure, but at 27 he's not old, and if they keep him with Johansen, he may be able to stay as a 25-30 goal guy which is good for that price.

Yes, I realize that, but when your career stats have you trending under 20 goals on average after 8 seasons, I tend to consider a year like this one more of an anomaly than the expected norm for a player. Besides which, scoring pace and what the player actually scores are two different things.
They will regret this deal. Foligno doesn't have the talent to be a perennial 40, or even 30, goal scorer. They will be lucky to get 20 goals a year from him. It's a lot of money and a lot of years to give to a player like Foligno who is likely a 2nd line winger and not much more.

Completely agree. This is a UFA contract, so that explains the money, but he will only be worth anything close to that for 2 or 3 years IMO, after which it will be an anchor of a contract.

ouch.
this one will hurt.
Let him earn the contract then he'll get paid. He hasn't earned it. He "should" get close this year, but this long of a deal at this price tag is going to hurt.

Wow. My first thought was whether someone knows something about Nick Foligno that I dont.
I think they're likely going to wind up taking this one in the teeth later on.

Yikes! This is setting a bad precedent for the owners. Does that mean Glencross is gonna be looking for 5+?

He was already going to be looking for it. He's worth it too. But most definitely not for 6 years.
Agreed thats a steep price for one contract season. Term is the bad part. If it was for 3 years itd be alright.

Does he? He could not have turned down that deal even if he hated it.
