The lessons learned, even if they get swept in the first round, would be tremendous.
If this bunch gets you close come trade deadline, it would send an Oiler's style 'losing is OK' message to the group if Flames deal away players that could help make that final push.
No way Treliving or Burke let that happen.
Hartley has said just making the playoffs is a 50% grade for the season. That reflects the org's mindset. It is this team's job to make the playoffs, and once init to win it. They don't care what experts or punters think. They are setting very high internal expectations and are holding people accountable to it. That's awesome, high performance thinking.
It's not contrary to the rebuild ethos. They are not trading away the future for any knights in white armor who can come in to save the day.
IMO that _is_ staying the course. Win it it with what we have, failing that regroup in the post season. That's why the Flames rebuild is awesome, where most others suck.

As someone who is often critical of Glencross, he has been much more noticeable lately. It's amazing how the points can add up when you do the little things right. Of the recent points, I can't think of any exceptional play by Glencross. He has a wicked shot and is putting himself in the right places to get the puck and use that shot.
All that said, I do believe Glencross is 100% someone you want on your squad when it comes to playoffs. I feel he would be a Franzen type guy who rises to the occasion.

A couple of goals will do that.
I still believe that Glencross was playing hurt for a long time.

He is good for a few bad plays per game (see: Edmonton's goal on Saturday), however, he's also been making up for it with his points.
If he wasn't putting up points, I'd be expecting him to slide down the depth charts. But it's hard to argue with results.

If they make the playoffs stay the course and don't mess with the chemistry.
As a side bonus, if we make the playoffs then we could easily have the Norris, Adams and possibly the Calder winners.

It depends more on if someone is ready on the farm to replace him. If Poirier continues to be amazing in Adirondack, perhaps you could move Glencross despite being in a playoff hunt without much of a step down.

What do people think of Glencross for Mike Green at the deadline?

I don't think you can count on an unproven guy to replace one of our vets who is actually producing.
But I agree with your general point. Granlund is almost certainly going down when Backlund is cleared to play. But what Granlund has proven is that we could move a veteran centre - or even Granlund himself - as part of a deal to improve with a young defenceman capable of growing into a 3/4 role.
I won't presume to guess whether such deals would exist, but we are in a unique situation where we can move certain vets whether we are in the playoff race or not.

I've been enjoying the play of Glencross and Stajan lately. Even Bollig has been ok.
Raymond is the only forward who is significantly underachieving. If he's scratched against the Oilers perhaps he'll sort his game out.

Green is redundant to Wideman and is a pending UFA. We'd be better off keeping Glencross in that situation, imnsho.

Not sure we need a 1-dimensional defenceman like Green. If Glencross were dealt I would rather see a young player, pick or prospects as a return.

I don't mind keep Glencross around if we have a playoff push, for sure.
I think the time to trade him for a defensive anything is if we are out of it by the deadline.

I'm curious to see if the combination of playing in his home town, and bob hartley's d-first attack might be something untapped.

Not just a defensive anything, but a defenceman we can expect to be with the organization going forward. Adding a no-D vet defenceman like Green doesn't help us.
I hate to keep proposing it, but we have a rather silly embarrassment of riches when it comes to centres right now. Granlund is going to get buried on the third or fourth line with Bennett and Monahan ahead of him, so he actually becomes good trade bait. Glencross and Granlund for a decent young D might become a possible deal. Other teams might be more willing to give up a prospect of some quality if they were getting a good prospect back themselves.

March 2nd I believe.
The CBA always sets the trade deadline 40 days before the last day of the regular season

He's having a decent season this year, actually. I also didn't realise that he's only 29. He's missed a lot of games through injury over the last few years, but this season he's been healthy and putting up decent numbers. Not as good as Giordano, Brodie or even Wideman, though.
I don't think he really adds much to what we already have. We don't really have a ready-made replacement for Glencross (combination of size and skill) and I think that particular deal would weaken the team overall.
Would adding a rental Mike Green at the deadline help the Flames? Probably not for what he would cost...

Glencross has fleeting peaks, and frustratingly useless valleys.
I'm done with him on this team, and hope he finds one of his peaks around deadline and we can finally be done with this. He's having a decent stretch right now, so I'm sure most will disagree with me... but let's all remember how often we've screamed at the TV or wondered if the dude was even dressed. For someone with potential trade value, I'd rather be done with it and open up that spot.
