Has anyone gotten the free Zwilling 5-Star knife(s) from Safeway?
I picked up the general purpose 7" Santoku about a week ago. I like it. It slices very well and feels very comfortable in the hand.

To get 170 stamps, you have to spend $1700. Free knives!

Not a fan of Zwillings, but hey, if it's free can't go wrong.
Haven't bothered saving stamps myself though. Pretty set for knives

I think I still have about 14 stamps kicking around somewhere.
If anyone wants them, lemme know and I'll look for them when I get home!
EDIT: Claimed by a quick PM

Split em up with CP members if we have lots of interest.

I've got ~70 stamps. Really only need a Santoku and our knife collection would be fully fleshed out but don't know if we'll spend enough to make it there.

We've been dominating the Stamp collecting. Our current knife set was garbage. My parents also shop at Safeway and don't need new knives so they've been donating to our efforts as well.
Already got the 150 stamps for the Chef's knife, have another 75 of our own saved up and know my parents have at least another 30 at their house. They are an astronomical upgrade over our previous set.

But you aren't spending $1700 to get a knife. You're spending $1700 on food, money that you would've spent anyways, and then getting a knife. So yes, free knives!

I've got the Chef's Knife and Santonku already thanks to about 5 family members who gave me stamps. Have enough saved for the veggie and bagel knife and then would like the slicing one.
I've never had proper (non-Walmart) cooking knives so this is a huge upgrade for me.
But yea, it takes a lot of money. There's 6 families helping me collect and it's taken 3 months just to get those first two knives.

Since I really like the feel of the 5-Star handle (it's ergonomically shaped) in my hand, I decided to check out the internet to see about purchasing other Zwilling 5-Star knives. (There's no way I'll have enough time or will buy enough groceries in order to get the complete set from Safeway before the promo expires on Feb 12)
I found this set available for $239.99 at Kitchen Stuff Plus (free shipping in Canada)
http://www.kitchenstuffplus.com/8510...-Set-of-7.aspx
Looks like a pretty good deal to me. I might buy it. It may not be available much longer as it appears that the 5-Star line has been discontinued by Zwilling J. A. Henckels.
Edit: If you decide to buy the above set and haven't gotten a knife from Safeway yet (but have 150 stamps) get the 7" Santoku. The above set from Kitchen Stuff Plus doesn't include the Santoku.

Don't forget to get the block to store all those beautiful knives. It would be a shame to chuck them in a drawer where they'll get all banged up.
Also, don't wash them in a dishwasher either. I know they say they are dishwasher safe but they will last a lot longer if you hand wash and dry immediately. I have a three Zwilling Pro-S knives that my mother had for years and when I got them they were in terrible condition by way of years of abuse (hundreds of dishwasher washings and knife drawer storage). The blades are good now after taking them to a professional knife sharpener to have them sharpened and restored but the handles are still terrible (dried out and cracked).

Yeah I have hundreds of stamps so far. We do all our shopping at safeway. I don't need any knives, so I'm grabbing them to put in my kids' hope chests.

Hundreds? Holy crap... how much do you spend on food in a month?..
Btw, I wouldn't put the stamps in your children's hope chests. They expire in February...

Maybe he's putting the knives in their hope chests? Self defense and such.

A lady behind me at Safeway saw my big purchase today, and asked if she could have my stamps.
Sure I says, $10 per stamp.

I could use another knife or two but the sheer volume of stamps required and the effort of saving them in some sort of organized fashion exceeds my level of enthusiasm for a free knife. I always just decline the stamps.
