Default JTF2 Killing ISIS?

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/12/22...te-source-says

Quote:
The feds deny Canadian commandos are engaged in ground operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq.
A source close to the operations had told QMI Agency that members of the elite JTF2 (Joint Task Force 2) unit, armed with high-powered rifles, are involved in operations aimed at killing Islamist fighters far from the front lines.
The Canadians are officially in Iraq to accompany and train Kurdish and Iraqi snipers.

Seem plausible.

Actually a phrase I remember was:

"watch and learn"

I have no doubt they are helping some ISIS members die for their cause.

I had no doubt that this was happening. These bombing runs aren't happening without some actual recon on the ground.

I'm sure that most of the member nations have a special forces contingent on the ground, training, designating targets, and yes opportunity kills.

I have no problem with this or a lack of disclosure of it by the government.

Of course. They were in Afghanistan before anyone knew Canada going to Afghanistan could be a thing. Same with Haiti, Syria, Libya, Iraq

This should surprise nobody, and if anyone is aware of the secrecy that needs to surround these guys, I hope nobody has an issue with it

I remember reading a story that Canada had troops in Libya during the bombing, when there was supposed to be no NATO troops there. When I went to find the story the next day, it was gone.

Hopefully they have the ROE set in such a way that they can actually do what they are trained to do.

One of my best buddys growing up was a senior member(think he was a captain) of JTF2 until he retired 6 or so years ago.

I asked him what makes them so "special"? are they like the American Seals?

He laughed and said, "remember when we were kids and we would catch fireflies in our cupped hands"? I said yeah!

He said: my guys would put out their lights before you caught them.

I think I got it

I'd hope so. If they were officially there they'd have to be a little more careful. Secrecy allows them to do their job.

Had friends and still have more friends in JTF2.

My favourite part of talking to them

General conversation:

Me: so you guys involved with this?
Them: No
Conclusion: not involved

Me: so re you guys involved with this?
Them: "can't talk about it" or "really can't say"
Conclusion: completely involved.

Seriously though, they are in so much that we are unaware of that it edges on being rediciulous. My buds that are retired, 10 years after they got out, told me they used to literally walk over sleeping Iraqis, in their own camps during the first Gulf War. No need to take prisoners, just remove any viable arms and do recon. Apparently, tip of the iceberg for them.

Are these the kick ass snipers we have? I read a few years ago it was a Canadian soldier that had the current record for longest confirmed kill, dunno if that's been beaten yet.
