Default Your Phobias and fears

Inspired by the scary movie thread, I thought it would be good to see who else has irrational fears or phobias, or if I'm the only nut on the board.

As for mine- to quote Homer Simpson "I don't mean to alarm you but there is a boogey man or possibly boogie men in the house." Yep, I have boogie men in my basement. And I know where the fear comes from. When I was very young the guy who used to babysit for us would hide, we'd go looking for him, and he'd pop out of nowhere.

I even go so far as to keep a remote for the TV at the top of the stairs, because as we all know the boogie man can't get you as long as the TV is on.

Bees

When I was 4 or 5 my cousin broke a stump that happened to house a YellowJacket nest. he was 3 years older and ran faster, so I took the brunt of it until I got back to grandma's house. Ever since, when I see any bee/wasp it is instant panic. I can control it for a bit, but if the bee doesn't leave pretty quickly then I am gone.

I'm not afraid of heights, but I do get vertigo and will inexplicably stumble towards the edge of something if I'm close to it. (ie 2nd floor of mall railing)

Unlocked front door of my house (or is this OCD......)

Insects, spiders, or other arthropods found crawling on me or my posessions. I may be able to smush them with the twitch of a muscle, but those *******s can make me spasm like I'd been hit with aqueous HCl if I see one of them on me.

I have weird conditional fears...

Like spiders and bugs with disproportionate bodies freak me out like common house spiders, centipedes, those weird flying things that are like huge mosquitoes and daddy long legs are the WORST. but I have no problem with like, tarantulas, those little jumpy spiders or the big fat ones you find outside with the weird bull-skull shape on their abdomens.

Heights only freak me out if there's nothing to secure me but maybe that's just common sense. I've gone skydiving a few times and love it but I wont go anywhere near a high balcony if there isn't a railing at least up to my chest.

The deep ocean freaks me out too for the same reason as J pold. Giant squids or octopie... <shudder>

I'm afraid that one day the Maple Leafs will win the Stanley cup and we'll all have to hear about it for the next 40 years.
If that isn't an irrational fear, I don't know what is.

I hate those things so much that I run like a school girl screaming down the street.

Snakes.

One example, a bunch of years ago I was sitting on a couch flipping through a LIFE Magazine when the turn revealed a gigantic viper snake head aggressively coming right at me from a two page spread . . . . . in an instant, that magazine was on the other side of the room and I was still sitting there shaking. I honestly don't even remember throwing the thing and there certainly wasn't a wind-up . . . . it was just in my hands and then bouncing off the wall 20 feet away a milli-second later.

I've since calmed down a bit and can leaf through National Geographic without too much trauma but I have no interest in going into the snake barn at the zoo.

The editors of LIFE, incidentally, got a lot of letters from people with similar reactions to myself.

My is needles. When I was young I got sick alot and would have to go to the hospital to get a IV and have fluids pumped into me, well when I was 5, I got a dumb a** nurse who could not find a vein. My arm was like a pin cushin, 15 tries is what my father told me. Finally a doctor got it in, I must have had junkie arms. To this day when I go to get blood work done, I damn near have had agzieity attacks, my presure drops so I dont pump blood worth a damn. I was sick over the holidays and had to get a IV done and I was like a 5 year old again, wining that I didn't want it. But I swear i dindt cry. So that my one big phobia, other than that I have a small fear of deep water (over a 1000 feet deep) it just freaks me out, and I can swim like a fish.
