The Canucks may not be at their best right now, but the Sedins are absolute Flame killers every time we play them it seems. Only way the Flames win tomorrow night is if they can keep those guys off the scoresheet. And that's never an easy task.

Such a strange season.

I honestly think that at least for a few games here (less so here, more so Buffalo) you can really see how a game breaker can really turn the game... guys like Monahan are good, but he's not a game breaker. Johnny is but he's a rookie and he's one guy - we could really use another one. Hopefully its Sam Bennett, but I don't count my eggs before they hatch...

All very true. I'm just trying my best not to think about the alternative where our puck luck continues, the Canucks get the first couple goals off bad bounces/easy goals let in by our goalie (after them being hungry for them lately) and then we have to live out the same old story from this losing skid, all the while being the ones who give Vancouver back their confidence and scoring touch

Story for me is the Flames need Two....TWO upgrades on shooter forwards.
I get that people HATE Semin but the Mofo can shoot and accurately. If you can pick him up for a song I don't care if sets up a cot at the opposing blueline and takes a nap as long as he has that shot locked and loaded when needed. That's one shooter.
Find another via trade. Granlund's being used as a defensive two way player right now and hasn't seen much pp time and he should see some for his shot alone. But it is what it is.

Should stick him back between Gaudreau and Hudler then. Jooris in the top 6 hasn't really worked out lately.

A floater with 3 more years (after this season) at $7M per? That song better be a couple 1st rounders and 50% of Semin's salary for McGrattan.

For a 20 year old, Monahan has already broke plenty of games for us. I think you're selling him short.

I've defended him in the past, but Mason Raymond was undeniably horrid tonight. The play seemed to die on his stick every time he touched the puck.
Engelland and Diaz = barf.
Russell, and to a lesser extent Brodie, has been struggling a bit lately.
Johnny Gaudreau is such a treat to watch. Every time he has the puck something happens, whether it's a scoring chance, nice pass, or he draws a penalty.
Gio better win the Norris.
Colborne, who has been my whipping boy of late, actually played a pretty solid game tonight. He looked like he did at the start of the season.
Bottom line though, the forwards have to start scoring. Not just a few guys, but every single one of them. They seem to make one too many moves or passes instead of just getting the puck to the net.

But c'mon, he only has 4 GWG and 4 GDG in the shootout in almost 1.5 seasons!

We already have one of these types of players right now. Glencross has a great shot, he's just not using it at the moment. He is also very willing to stand in front of the net. Earlier in the year the when the Flames were firing from any where he was effective. It seems now they are looking for that PERFECT play.

No kidding.
Sean Monahan has 4 game winning goals (including 3 OT goals), and is 7 for 11 in the shootout. In 108 career games.

Five game deciding goals in the shoot out now with his one this season. Three of those game winners gave come in OT too, pretty remarkable actually.

Time for some line juggling...only thing that keeps me sane during this losing streak
Colborne - Monahan - Jones (Size, shutdown with some offensive potential)
Gaudreau - Granlund - Hudler (Scoring line that worked well earlier this season)
Glencross - Jooris - Byron (Energy line with some offensive potential)
Bollig - Bouma - McGrattan (Starting lineup vs Canucks)
Pressbox: Raymond (been very bad lately), Stajan (Unless Hartley's not trolling the Canucks)

So his 5 deciding shootout goals + his 4 GWG means he's directly been responsible for 9 of the 48 wins we've had that he's played in so far.
That's 18.75% of our wins with him in the lineup. That's actually pretty remarkable.

Hmmm...how about
Byron - Monahan - Colborne (lots of size & skill in Monahan & Colborne with all 3 possessing speed to boot)
Gaudreau - Granlund - Hudler (a small but super-skilled and fast 2nd line)
Glencross - Stajan - Jones (This veteran combo has worked very well together previous 2 years)
Bollig - Jooris - Bouma (Jooris could use a different look for a bit)
Brodie - Giordano
Russell - Wideman
Engelland - Potter (Give Potter a game here and there to see what he can still do)
Bench: Raymond, McGrattan (though it's tempting to put him in just to mess up the Nucks again), Diaz

I don't get the freak out. To me this season is already a win even if they hit 12 lost games.
These young guys are still for the most part playing hard. It sucks right now but a few weeks ago they were riding high. The kids are getting exposed to winning, something the perma-tank Oilers kids never have experienced.
This is good for he team. Teaching them wins do not come easy, but learning again how to grind out wins is just the experience they need. The hot shot kids up north have never won, ever and have no idea what it is like.
Look if they stink up the rest of the season, but play hard, that is all most of us were expecting. I hope they start to win again soon, but if not, as long as they continue to play hard I am fine. Another high pick added to a winning culture with Bennett back next year is not a bad problem to have.
We have time folks, and lots of cap room, be patient.
