Just skimmed but seems like a pretty thorough article. Can't disagree

Even if they play .500 hockey the rest of the way (something like 24-24-1) that would still get them to 95 points.
This is wrong. The team would have 85 points in this case.

Yeah. We need to go something more like 29-20 over the remaining 49 games.

So the Flames have to go 29-19-1 (ish) to get around 95 pts, which still may not even be enough to get into the post-season.

Is it just me or does it seem like in this day and age you really have to play at a decent clip all season long to even have a sniff of the playoffs. Must be the extra OT point but when I see stats like this it's still sort of surprising. One losing or winless streak, not even as bad as the one we're seeing now, and your season is suddenly in jeopardy it seems.

EDIT: not saying the Flames season is now doomed or anything like that either. Just that you certainly can find yourself out of the picture in short order simply by losing a few games in a row.

Really interesting take actually. The author talks about ten game segments. As with most teams, the answer to how good they are is not at their lowest streak nor their highest streak. If the flames started on a losing streak then had a winning streak we wouldn't be concerned, we'd be ecstatic. In reality, we would be the same team. The flames will be going on another winning streak soon and the sun will appear blue again. I'm not sure playoffs ate in the future this year, but some exciting hockey will be

According to Sport Club Stats, often linked by Troutman, the Flames need to finish 26-18-5 (93 points) to have a >50% chance at the playoffs and 27-16-6 (96 points) to have a 90% chance at the playoffs.

I kinda laughed when I got the notification on my phone, seems like the article is about 6 to 8 days too late.

Aside from how fast the wins came early and Jorris there is still vary little that has shocked me about the Flames season one way or another. I expect them to be an average team over the sum of the next 49 games, and I doubt that much of it will come in long winning or losing streaks.
