NHL Mumps
http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/nhl-mu...ered-1.2873761
14 players on five teams have the virus. Duncan Keith missed his game tonight too.
Mumps is a virus that causes swollen and tender glands, particularly the salivary gland. It also causes flu-like symptoms such as fever and body aches.
It is spread through respiratory droplets of saliva and mucus from the mouth, nose and throat. Exchanging saliva by sharing drinks (like water bottles), food or cigarettes, and kissing are ways to spread mumps.

According to the reports, most of them have been vaccinated. Crosby was supposedly completely up to date and still got them.

I know that before I entered my professional schooling (about 8 years ago), I had to get a booster measles/mumps/rubella vaccine, because I was no longer immune to mumps (even though childhood immunizations were up-to-date).
Seems to be a common issue, and I am around the age of many any NHLers.
Because of the recent spike of infections, I hope the teams are getting players tested for immunity.

They should really stop drinking, eating, smoking, and kissing then.

And because of this outbreak, the Flames have to cancel their visit to the Children's Hospital tomorrow. Feel bad for the kids, but the Flames are just being uber careful.
Beau Bennett went to the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh last week. Not sure of his time schedule, but he could have been infectious at the time of the visit. Yikes!

They should cancel the season and have an equal weighted lottery for the draft order.

Noticed that both Hartley and Trelicing have said that most (if not all) the guys have gone and gotten vaccinated.
Thing is though the vaccination is only like 88% effective or something.

I believe there was a period in the late 70s and early 80s where the Mumps weren't a part of the inoculation. So some of the older guys would be susceptible but younger guys should be up to date.
At least that is for here in Alberta, I'm not sure if that is Canada wide or not.

All Olympians were vaccinated before Sochi last year and a bunch of them are on the mumps list. Vaccinations help, but they don't prevent everything obviously.

Global just had a piece where a doctor (I think) said they've likely been exposed during the Pens game. I sure hope not.
