Yeah, whatever the hardware is now or what they've changed it to the billing wouldn't be changed unless you changed your plan/bundle, like the billing CSR said. I was hoping your discount was $10, keeping the price the same for you. Oh well.

I didn't see this posted when I skimmed, but we have confirmation.

A 5th tier called Internet 120 will be added in the future. Of course, this is Shaw, the same company who promised 250mbps and 10mbps+ up in the for August 2011, so I wouldn't put any faith into that.
Enjoy paying more for less though. That is Shaw's new motto.

I had 250 mbps for well over a year. Probably closer to 2. My ul was consistently 15 mbps, though that took a few calls to them to get the modem configured properly. Dl rarely got past 125-130 though.

Try telling it you live at Chestermere Lake. When I had Telus years ago I was on hold with a CSR for a good 10 minutes while she figured that out, nice to see nothing has changed

I've had both Telus and Shaw and I can say though I love Shaw's better speeds, it does seem to go down fairly often in the smaller community I live in. I've been toying with the idea of going back to Telus just to have a more dependable connection.

I have no gripes with Shaw, seem like a better company than telus. When I was with telus they wouldn't let me use my own router, my internet speeds were only reaching 15 mobs and a lot at 7 mbps. Now I'm with shaw I'm pretty steady 25 all the time. Even my girlfriend notices the difference.
I would have thought we would be paying less for more... I'm almost going to need a second mortgage to pay for my internet it seems.
But watch for similar changes from telus...

Don't be so eager to jump to Telus. It might be the lesser of 2 evils, but mine is so glitchy that before the Shaw price increase I was considering jumping ship to Shaw.

Bwahaha that worked. Oh Telus, don't ever change.

While internet rates are getting bad I don't think they're anywhere to cell phone plans right now. They're absolutely brutal right now and plans have only gotten worse and more expensive.
Forget the big 3, even their discount carriers are pretty expensive. You'll be paying close to $60 for less than a gig of data. A few years ago $70 got you 6 gigs.

I just checked for the first time and I basically always go over my monthly data cap, often by a lot... yet Shaw has literally never mentioned it to me.
Am I just lucky?

Now that you mention it, you owe $17 000.

I stopped by the Telus store on my way home yesterday because their website wasn't finding my address. I can sign up with Telus for TV and internet but after looking at the numbers I won't actually be saving any money (which was the most important part.) I don't want to sign up for a three year contract with Telus so I'd only be looking at 6 months of discounted rates. I'd be looking $95/month for 6 months and $166/month after that. My intention was to do Telus for a year at a reduced rate and move back to Shaw for a reduced new customer rate after that and just keep playing the game.
My current Shaw bill is $130/month which includes tax and a home phone (which we don't actually use.)

I don't see where this says anything about BB100 being eliminated for existing customers.
If anything it looks like there is a price hike (already confirmed) and new packages will be 5/15/30/60/120 instead of 10/25/50/100.
I dunno I think theres some fishy #### going on on the Reddits atm.

You won't be able to go back and forth and get the "new" customer rate anyway.

You are a "new" customer with Shaw if you haven't had service with them in the previous 90 days.

Existing customers will be grandfathered on the existing plans until they request a change to their internet plan or Shaw bundle.

Had an idea!

So all of this to turn more profit? Nothing because of actual congestion and the like?

Well, it is to generate more revenue.
How much of that new revenue goes to profit, and how much goes to infrastructure to alleviate congestion remains to be seen.

So if dislike both of them I guess I'll become one of those people that switch back and forth every 6 months for promotional rates.

If I read this correctly, they're spending around $1B / year on "upgrades" depending on how you look at it ( 2014 financial report, page 11). Doesn't really break down what they're building or how it works into backhaul capacity. It seems to suggest (page 48) around $25-50M of equipment costs, with the vast majority of expenses listed as "Additions to property, plant and equipment". Pretty vague stuff, but I heard elsewhere they're spending quite a bit to expand (new subdivisions all over the place) plus upgrades. Didn't they also have that fire downtown which took out a room of equipment?
