I'll be stunned if the speeds at Shaw decrease. The second link makes much more sense.

$5 sounds fair at first but my Cable and Internet package is up more than %40 over the last 3.5 years with Shaw. That's starting to get a little ridiculous. Imagine if the city of Calgary tried to pull that!?
I have a fibre drop and am ready to switch to Telus if only it wasn't for their bogus tv bundles. I get all the channels I need on Shaw with personal TV and time-shift for $39 + $5. On Telus it's either $69 for essentials and 6 packs or $56 for essentials and the 3 packs I need to order to get the channels I watch.
I know it's time to ditch cable but it's just so seamless for sports...

I'm not sure what the big deal is, but then I don't have the 100 level. From what I can tell this is just Shaw changing the levels of new plans, not changing current levels of services. It's funny that less people seem to get pissed off when Telus/Rodgers change their plan levels for cell phones, but as soon as Shaw touches the internet people snap.
The price increase sucks but it's nothing new. If you like your current plan you shouldn't have any changes other than the price bump.
Edit: I called Shaw today because I have had the same plan for a long time. I changed the TV packages around and bumped up my internet to the next level and ended up paying like $2 less than before and all I lost was some SD channels, but who cares about that.

Seriously insane statement.

There may be truth to that as it's not the first time I have read that. Given the availability of the technology and the lengths of our winters it's probably not far fetched as we spend more time indoors than most other countries.

I live about 15 minutes from downtown, and my address isn't available either. Brilliant.

25mbps = $2.31 and $2.68

The new pricing would be...
60mbps = $1.50
30mbps = $2.33
15mpbs = $4.00
5mbps = $10.00
New price/mbps don't seem to be much different than the old prices, is everyone just upset about losing 100mbps? I guess being forced into a higher tier would suck a bit, but from the sounds of it you can keep your old plan.

This is patently untrue.
Shaw has added a lower tier of internet for low-end users and are dropping the highest tier due to low demand.
Current plans will be grandfathered. They aren't going to lower your current services if you have broadband 100.

Shaw's not taking away 100mbps. Guaranteed.

They already removed the highest tier, as Broadband 250 went away quietly this year. And the speed wasn't automatically reduced - it only reduced when I contacted Shaw to switch from 250 to 100. My plan was grandfathered for months with no change in price or speed before that.

I'd put money on Shaw pushing the #### out of Shomi to distract and justify price differences, and say they are "readying" their service offerings for streaming. Problem is, I'm having a hard time understanding how reducing internet speeds and promoting a streaming TV service is going to work in their favour? Are they stupid?
Extremely frustrating.
Also, I called them last week to order the WWE Network (after WWE said call your local provider in Canada) as a specialty channel, and they had to look up on the Internet what that is, and then told me to contact Rogers if I want that. Unbelievable.

Send them the Channel Request Form for WWE Network. People have been requesting it for months, but it requires negotiations between Shaw and Rogers. Rogers and WWE's promotion of the network being available everywhere in Canada is less than genuine.

I believe that Extreme is the same as "Internet 25". 25mbps download, 2.5mbps upload.
What are you paying per month for that? Mine is $70 (before bundling), but I see on the web site that it is listed as $60.

I live chatted with them just now to see if I can get the $60 price (the $10 would help offset the upcoming price increase!), but predictably: To get that price you need a whole new bundle, not compatible with your current TV plan, you'd lose your modem and bundle discount (even though the modem would be the same purchased modem), etc. etc. Figured I'd try.

What kind of modem discount do you get? They stopped charging for modems years ago.

$5/month purchased modem discount. Way back when I first got service (2002?) I bought the modem for $60 because it would pay for itself in a year. It seems that the discount is still on my account, even though they did switch the old modem to a new Docsys(?) one at no charge a few years back.
