Agreed. If you are one of those gamers that only plays Call of Duty, GTA and NHL then the WiiU probably isn't for you. If you tend to branch out from the stereo typical north american male then the WiiU might have the best library of the 3 main consoles right now. Plenty of great games out for the system.

I bought a reconditioned one from the Nintendo website for $200. It's like brand new and comes with a one year warranty. The only game is Nintendoland though.

That seems like a pretty good idea, where on the site did you find that option?

The new Zelda has me beyond incredibly excited, it looks to be the most ambitious and jaw dropping Zelda title to date. I feel that there is a title that has been criminally overlooked in the last few months though. This game is up there with Zelda as one of my most anticipated games next year.

I'm looking for advice.

My wife doesn't really like to play video games. Never had much interest in PS3, ps2 or computer games. She does, however, enjoy playing mario kart 64. We even went as far as picking up a nostalgic n64. The problem is, it's old and boring now.

Is it worth it to get a Wii U? I have a gaming pc for things like GTA etc, I have an HTPC for streaming things etc and I've decided that I'm probably going to forego the latest iteration of 'next gen' consoles from microsoft and sony due to new found membership in the master race.

I'm speciically looking for something to entice my wife to play video games with me on the couch. So far, I like the idea of being able to play while the TV is otherwise in use for a different input.

Is it worth it to pick one of these up? Is the replay value of the games/system decent?

I actually just came looking for this thread, was wondering the exact same thing, kinda. Spent the evening at a buddies playing the new Mario Kart. Hadn't thought of the Wii U much but man it's a fun system. Mario Kart (8?) was a heck of a lot of fun.

Like Flash, I'm a little worried about replay value.. my Wii was really only used when I had people over and collected dust for the vast majority of it's life. Loved playing Mario games on other platforms though.. played the heck out of a Kart version on a game boy version years ago.. but for the Wii, wasn't into it nearly as much. Nintendo does Nintendo games perfectly but I fear the Wii U will be amazing at first but just be in the way for years after.

Having recently purchased the Xbox One I'll feel super silly walking into the house with another console.

Other than 'party games' like MK8, SSB, etc, most Nintendo games are shorter than other consoles - i.e., about 10 hours to beat Super Mario Bros U if you aren't after collecting three stars from every level. Nintendo hasn't really figured out achievements yet (SSB has some), so that method of artificially lengthening the games hasn't really been implemented.

Nintendo is also only toeing the waters on DLC at the moment, but their DLC pack for Mario Kart completely destroys almost every other DLC released anywhere. The content from the two DLC packs is basically a full expansion for $15. So overall, I'd say if you are looking at PS/XB level "replayability", you're going to suffer a little. Unless, as noted, you spend a lot of time playing with friends/family in the same room due to the aforementioned games.

I am not much of a gamer, just don't have the skills/interest for shooters etc. But I play the heck out of my Wii U. Even on weekends when my wife's kids are away at their dad's place, the two of us will sit down and play MK8/SSB/Mario/Rayman all the time. High WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) in my experience. Plus, it is something we can play with the kids when they are around, lots of titles to play 4-up.

It's cheaper than a PS4/XB1 too, I feel like we have gotten our money's worth.

Wii U is definitely best for the family, kids, ect...not saying it can't be enjoyed by gamers too for me I just don't think it could be my only console. Worth it for sure though especially if you can find a deal

Depends how big Zelda is and if they follow it up with a similar Metroid as well as develop some new IP.

no sports games is a pretty big blow to a system...and the limited 3rd party support is dwindling

Wii U will have a very small library compared to the competitors when all is said in done.

Remember though I am saying its a worthwhile system but you will be missing a lot if that is all your are gaming on

Honestly, I don't even care about the lack of third party support. I own seven WiiU games, all first party. And with some of the titles coming down, I think it unlikely that I ever own as many PS4 games as I will WiiU. That is just for myself, obviously, but Nintendo is probably the single best game developer out there today.

I do, however, own a PS4 for the games that can't be had on Nintendo - NHL, GTA, Final Fantasy.

I haven't played it But the Wii Sports Club series has a golf version. From this review, it looks like they found a rather interesting use for the game pad:

I might actually have to try this out at some point.

When was the last time you bought a Nintendo system for access to 3rd party games? That's what a PC is for. And I will live without another ####ty rendition of Madden or NHL. I can buy one every four years and miss next to nothing.

Quality over quantity in the end.

You miss out on a lot if you are gaming on only one of any of the three consoles.

...That's not really a great argument for owning it as your only console. That a game that's at least a year away will be awesome and speculation about things they might make beyond that.

Not sure why I quoted Dino with that post. I was intending to quote Resolute in regards to game length and replayability. Not whether owning just Wii U is a good choice (it is).

Never even noticed that I got the wrong person until you quoted me.
