not that it would have solved everything, but the Oilers would be infinitely better off if MacT had traded the 8th pick (Nurse), a 2nd, and Marincin for Cory Schnieder

As far as the Strome, Reinhart and a 2nd, you would have to think a half step down on each to be reasonable. Strome and Reinhart are developing as they were expected, and Hall is a question mark to a lot of GMs concerned with chemistry.
Nelson, DeHaan and a 4th would be closer to the mark.

That came right out of the mouth of Kelly Buchberger who is still in Oilers organization. Buchberger and Dreger grew up together in Langenberg, Sask. Everything Dreger gets he gets from Buchberger. Pals for a long time. Dreger isn't making this up.

The teams that should look into this are Anaheim, Philly and NYI, 3 that could use a top end LWer.

Not sure why the speculation on here around the Islanders trading for Hall. They've brought in some very good pieces in the offseason, and have rocketed up the standings as a result. Why would they torpedo their club to get someone who is now perceived to have issues in the room?
Not saying the return of Strome, Reinhart and 2nd wouldn't be about what Hall could fetch, but it just makes no sense from the Isles point of view.

in the last 3 seasons of 5on5 play he is 3rd in points per 60 min behind only Crosby and Malkin

It makes sense from the Isles POV that they need an elite LW to play with Tavares. They have been looking for one for a long time.
But I agree with you they take a big risk that Hall brings his issues with him.

Put me on the boat that thinks Hall wouldn't be much of a distraction if he had no leadership opportunities on the Isles (which he wouldn't). However, I think wherever he goes, any fan base would expect a lot out of him.
The only person that can fix Taylor Hall is Taylor Hall himself.

Yakupov and Hall yes, but i'd rather have RNH.

I'd take Monahan 10 times out of 10 over RNH

Not saying that 29 teams wouldn't inquire, but you'd have to think a lot of those teams would be at least mildly timid about adding him to their team.
Not good defensively, likes to skate with his head down and potentially receive more concussions/injuries, one of the lowest hockey IQs in the game. Now you have a lot of rumors referring to him as a possible locker room cancer.
I'm sure most teams would at least pick up the phone and see what the Oilers are looking for in return, but I can't see 29 teams clamoring to trade for him. He's damaged goods in more ways than one.

More from the Dreger interview:
Quote:
On how he must be a remarkable disappointment off the ice, if of all of those names that could be in play, Taylor Hall is on that list:
"Yeah. I think it speaks from a willingness to adapt. So I am choosing my words carefully in saying that. I don't - I'm not in that room... We gather our information from the sources that we have and my sense is Taylor Hall has a pretty specific way/vision of how he sees he needs to play, and maybe how the team needs to play. And he isn't really open to the idea of change. And that's a problem."

Hall is the scapegoat for the Oilers mismanagement, they ruined him.
He seemed to care about winning when he led his team to back to back Memorial cups.

Dreger on TSN Radio "Taylor Hall from a culture standpoint, not a on the ice standpoint hasn't been what they thought he would be"
Quote:
On the firing of Dallas Eakins and what’s next:
“... These players will be embarrassed that Dallas Eakins had to go down because of their inability to respond. It’s not one player. It’s the collection of players that make up a sagging work ethic and lack of culture. But if you wanted to put a face on it, or a name to it, that’d be Taylor Hall. Taylor Hall, at least again from a culture standpoint - more in the room, not necessarily on the ice – hasn’t been what they hoped he would be.
“And so when MacTavish looks into his crystal ball and tries to see what might come his way via trade, he’s got to be looking to the trade deadline. And then beyond that obviously looking at the draft floor. Because if you’re moving a piece like Taylor Hall, and I believe that Taylor Hall will be in play, then the rate of return is always best when teams have flexibility in the summer.”
|
|
time for MacT to get a new crystal ball ....mind you, it would explain a lot - ha! ha!

I think if you get him out of that organization he smartens up. There's no arguing his offensive ability. The guy has been King Turd up north since the whole Taylor or Tyler circus. I think if you put him somewhere where he's seen as just another player in that locker room, things change. He needs to realize he's not the golden boy saviour of the organization to bring him back down to earth. He's had everyone kissing his arse since he became a pro in that city and now they're wondering why he has a bad attitude. No good.

I dont think anyone should doubt his winning or commitment, the way he throws his body around with reckless abandon should show that

Nugent-Hopkins was projected to be an elite #1 centre before he was drafted, and is still only 22 years old. It's not too late, put him in a real organization and he turns into a great player.
