We could loan him. I'm sure we would if that's what he wanted.

well loaning him means they would have to sign him first, which means he counts towards the reserve list and the Flames would be paying him to play on another team.

He already counts towards the reserve list. I think maybe you mean that if signed, he would count towards the 50-contract limit.

Actually he's one of the most ready players we have. His resume includes captaining his college team to their first appearance at the frozen four in their schools history and a Calder Cup championship with Hamilton in 2012-13. He was an AHL All-star in 2013 and had 42 points in 62 games with the Heat last season.

His 3 assists in 10 NHL games with the Flames last season is still ahead of the offensive contributions of Engelland and Smid this season after 30 games.

I'd argue he's our most NHL ready depth. Biggest knock against him is his small stature at 5'10".

I guess Billins could fill in if we absolutely needed him but on a long term basis the last thing we need is another small defenceman.

I don't think we need him going forward. Would be nice to trade his rights or have him play somewhere else and let him to free agency in the summer.
Think of it in the minors we have: potter, yonkman, wotherspoon, cundari, acolaste, sieloff, ramage, culkin and Stevenson and wouldn't be surprised to see kulak come back up to the AHL at some point. No room for him.

Kid's got skills, so I can't imagine Treliving would have a hard time finding a taker on a swap of AHL players. If our back end has it's quota of small defensemen, do the kid a solid, give him a chance elsewhere.

Right now Billins would be better than Diaz.

He would at least play the power play and take some minutes away from the top 4 who are getting worn down by playing 23 minute plus each and every game.

I'd say Billins is better than all of them except for Potter and Wotherspoon. Move someone else, bring in Billins
