Yep, keep promoting people from within the system. That's been working for you so far.

@CraigJButton: Will be interesting to see if donuts will re-appear in the Oilers' press room.

This is the Edmonton Oilers 5th coaching change since 2009.
So 1 every year.

Why would he go there? He's a recent Jack Adams winning coach, he'll have plenty of job offers from actual NHL teams.

looks like this is an audition for Todd Nelson

Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
Todd Nelson heading to Phoniex to meet up with #Oilers for next game. Told he may have head title by the end of the season.

At least he has two years of NHL Assistant Coach experience.

Andy Grabia @agrabia
I love the Oilers. Ex-captain becomes coach, is fired as coach, then brought back as GM. He then fires coach, and makes himself coach.

He gets paid until the end of his contract whether he's working or not. Management did him a favour by letting him go right before the holidays. Now he can actually enjoy Christmas in the relief that he is no longer the coach of the Oilers.

Wait....

They now have someone who was fired as Head Coach of the Oilers to now come back as Head Coach of the Oilers?

Mind Blown...

I guess at this point the Oilers just don't feel like Mark Messier is quite ready to be fired in 12-18 months

Never change oilers management.
To be fair, an endorsement from the GM when the team is struggling is often the kiss of death.

But it is hilarious that Edmonton had to lose 15 of 16 for this to happen.

Nobody deserves a nice long vacation more than Dallas Eakins right now.

That is such an Oilers thing to do. Bypass the opportunity to do a full search for a coach - including interviews with guys outside of the system - so they can replace an AHL coach that had no NHL HC experience with another AHL coach that has no NHL HC experience.
