Chicago is a place where Erixon can actually blossom and for that reason, I hate that he got traded there. I'd have prefered him to wander in the desert longer in small market teams.

As far as Chi being a great place to blossom...Q is EXTREMELY demanding of two-way effort...and the Q doghouse is often only one shift away for young guys!

Hayes' Brother found that out, and if it scared off the other Hayes, then, no great loss...Erixon now finds himself with competition, not just for the #6 spot this year, but for #4, #5, and #6 next year with at least four other young D-men.

I hate to quibble, but Hayes is doing pretty well and progressing nicely. He had 11 goals and 18 points in 51 games last year on the worst offensive team in the league. This year he has 7 goals and 13 points in 21 games, is 5th on the team in scoring, and is getting anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes a night with an increasing role. He's 6'6" and 221 lbs., 25 years old, and is developing a very nice power forward game that is still defensively responsible. His numbers don't look all that different from when he was with Chicago.

I think Quenneville is a great coach, but if that is the example of someone who was always in his doghouse then maybe coach Q needs to have a little more patience with young players. It's done wonders for our coach who was famous for being hard on young players.

Cali...J. Hayes, Pirri, Morin, Stahlberg, and others, didn't pay enough attention to the Backcheck, and Q first limited minutes, and then saw them moved. Defensively, until TVR, now injured, Q did not seem have a lot of patience with the guys rotating the #6 D slot.

BTW...Dahlbeck got returned to the Rock, so I expect Erixon to get a look tonight...

Which makes sense from the standpoint of a contender. #6 Dmen basically grow on trees if one doesnt work you jettison him into the sun and get another one.

Its one of the positions where you really can be picky because #6 guys are everywhere.

Locke...for BHawk fans, the sad part, is that ALL the #6 tryouts played better than Rozival, their D-partner, and Q seems to have a man crush on that pylon, much like he seemed to have on Handzus at Center, the passed few years...I'd have rather kept Brookbank, than Rozi.

I've been watching both Hayes and Pirri play in Florida, and in their time they don't seem to have any problem playing defense. Gallant is not a coach that doesn't expect hard work or defensive play either. Both players are a +2 on a team that has a double digit negative goal differential.

All I'm saying is that it doesn't seem to be something they were unwilling to do, so maybe his methods aren't the best? Just food for thought.

BTW, I don't think Morin should be lumped in with the rest. I'm not sure he's even an NHL regular.

Locke...no, just feel that Rozival is done, and would almost rather audition TWO Rooks than see #32 out there!

Edit Addition:

Cali...as deep as the 'Hawk top level forward talent is, it is easier to be picky...Except for the top picks (#19 and #88), only Saad seemed to win Q's trust, instantly...Morin self-terminated by leaking a demand.

I think with Pirri, Teruveinen was viewed as a higher prospect, and Pirri got just short tryout, and was unable to make much of an impression

Hayes just wasn't a good enough skater to be a fit...Smith seems to have been the right call for this roster.

Are you insinuating that the Flames are contenders?

What depth are people talking about in Chicago? That team is very reminiscent of the Flames. Solid top 4, garbage past that. Unfotunately, Erixon has a good chance to break into and grasp a 3rd pairing spot in Chicago

They have some decent prospects down there... although Q doesn't seem to like any of them.

Pretty uneventful 10:43 in ice time for Timmy tonight. Have fun fighting van Riemsdyk, Clendening, Rundblad and Dahlbeck for those precious minutes.
