I don't have a problem with Fluoride but I don't think its something that should be forced on people. If you want fluoride in your water, go to the grocery store and buy some tablets. I would also like to link a Harvard study related to this subject.

The vote in City Council didn't seem to be particularly ideological. Both traditionally conservative and liberal types voted against the fluoridation of the water supply. I'm not sure what the rationale was actually. Maybe Bunk might have some insight.

These results do not allow us to make any judgment regarding possible levels of risk at levels of exposure typical for water fluoridation in the U.S.

If you don't want fluoride put in the water supply that is fine. I agree, mandatory prophylactics goes against liberalism and freedom of choice. But to remove it you have to consider the harm it could cause on the people most vulnerable to dental caries and subsequent infections, those that don't have access to adequate amounts of fluoride any other way.

The people that can't afford to go to the dentist are more likely the people who won't go to the grocery store to spend their limited income on fluoride tablets. If you remove fluoride from the water, you should be supplementing that with providing universal dental care. Of course that is a much more expensive option, so unless there comes studies showing definitive physiological traumas and neurological damage that fluoride in water can cause, I think it is probably an easier option to continue until the health care system can be properly reformed.

The findings of the study indicate that further research and study be done on fluoride levels and their relationship to the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposure on neurodevelopment.

OK, but certainly changes the conclusions one can draw from the findings of the study.

I used to do business with a pediatric dentist and when they took the flouride out of the water she said that it would be great for her business in a handful of years but that the kids in the city and their parents wallets were going to pay a hefty fee for the flouride removal. Only 3 years later it looks like she wasn't wrong.

Ooh, sarcasm! Let's go with that one!

You know what else is an infringement on freedom of choice? Traffic lights. Just because The Man doesn't want people smashing their cars into other cars, leaving carnage and death in their wakes, shouldn't me that *I* have to deal with my freedom of movement being impaired. Green, yellow, red - who do these fascists think they are? I know how to drive, so get your jackboots out of my passenger seat!

Anyway, I'm all about the free-range water myself. Get it from a farmer who sells it on the sly out near Beiseker. Sure, there's the risk of amoebic dysentry or parasites, but I'm not going to let Silly Hall tell me what trace chemicals are in MY water.

Mmm red herrings, false analogies and passive aggressive insults. The ultimate logical sidestep.

Let's start here: do you agree that the state can place limits on a person's "freedom of choice" (whatever that might mean) where it is reasonably justified in doing so?

What goes in my body is my business. That's what the issue is, asking leading questions like that is still a form of rhetoric. As if I am in favor of absolute chaos and lawlessness, getting a little carried away no?

I don't understand why putting fluoride removes freedom of choice. I'm probably pretty slow, but it seems to me you still have the choice to get your water elsewhere, or to treat your water however you want to. The City delivers a product and you can choose to use it as is, or not. Can you explain this freedom of choice idea a little more comprehensively so the slow people like me can keep up?

^That's atleast a reasoned argument but there's no need to insinuate any cognitive deficiency. Currently I can not choose anything but city water, my car broke down and I can't get any water besides city water. But in the case that my car works yes I can choose to drink other water.

Thanks Android, haha. I can laugh at the I'll timed sabotage.

And how does fluoridated tap water force anything into your body? Is the government forcing you to drink it? Is it not but one potential source of water? Are there not many other un-fluoridated sources of water for you to choose from?

EDIT: V beat me to it.

I get my water from a well, with insanely high iron content, so I installed a filtration system with an RO unit. I would assume that removes any fluoride in the water as well. So you don't exactly have to go out and pick up the water yourself.

Oh, also, my buddy is a water delivery man. So if you really want better water...
