Neil Sheehy wore #0 with the Whalers after he was traded from the Flames, but he only wore 5 and 15 while in Calgary.
Marty Biron wore #00 with the Sabres until the NHL discovered that it caused a bug in their stats software and forced him to change the number. He was the last player to wear 0 or 00.
Yup. And it is now an official NHL rule that a player cannot wear #0 (or 00), because they find it easier to outlaw the number than fix the bug.
It’s a pity, because I rather like zero as a player’s number.
(If I were running an NHL club in Las Vegas, I’d petition the league to allow 0 and 00 as numbers, and then have a house rule that every regular player must have a number that can be found on a roulette wheel. But I’m silly that way.)

On the Flames site there's a list of who wore what number. It's interesting how certain numbers never had much of a notable player (I was killing time by seeing who the best player was for each number and in some cases I had to stretch - who was the best 32 ever?)
It was also evident how often a player would use whatever number was there and move to their preferred one when it opened up. You forget MacInnis was 11 and 22 once.
Not really a fan of telling rookies (this quickly) that they are going to stay up.
The Flames told Horak that he was going to stay with the Flames in November 2011, he was sent down in December 2011, was called up in December, then was sent down again in January 2012, was called up in February and then sent down again in March.

Just heard some comments from Jooris on TSN, he said all the righ things. He said that nothing will change for him.
Lets go Jooris!
I met Jooris a couple of weeks ago along with Johnny Hockey. They're both great kids. Seems like they're just loving being in the NHL and not taking it for granted. Great attitudes!

Jooris on living #NHL dream: My parents are the ones that have to calm down, they've been real excited. I have to realize I can't sit back

Gaudreau on roommate Josh Jooris: I like to sleep with the TV on & he doesn't let me on the road. He makes sure I turn it off. #Flames #NHL

Also, are there any rules regarding telling a player to get a permanent place to live? If they do this, are they allowed to demote him at any point? Or do they have to keep him around for a certain amount of time?
Yes, and then they could do a reality show about it too....
So awesome to hear the Flames giving this hard working kid the nod. Move Colborne to the wing when he comes back. The way he plays Center he is better suited for the wing anyways.
It is goofy that the Flames have Bollig wearing Niewy's 25.
Since it was brought up...
I recall KKing saying on a number of occasions that once a players number is "honored" by the Flames that that number would only be worn by a special player... Bollig ???
I guess the measuring stick is really low which is why the friggin numbers should be retired.
