Yup. And it is now an official NHL rule that a player cannot wear #0 (or 00), because they find it easier to outlaw the number than fix the bug.

It’s a pity, because I rather like zero as a player’s number.

(If I were running an NHL club in Las Vegas, I’d petition the league to allow 0 and 00 as numbers, and then have a house rule that every regular player must have a number that can be found on a roulette wheel. But I’m silly that way.)

On the Flames site there's a list of who wore what number. It's interesting how certain numbers never had much of a notable player (I was killing time by seeing who the best player was for each number and in some cases I had to stretch - who was the best 32 ever?)

It was also evident how often a player would use whatever number was there and move to their preferred one when it opened up. You forget MacInnis was 11 and 22 once.

Oh, I can answer that without even putting on my thinking cap. Scary Eloranta, obviously.

That's where I landed. 15 was harder, if I don't count St. Louis. 33 was hard.

Dallas Eakins had lots of numbers, so he was often a candidate.

Best part about it. It would be really funny if we gave Gaudreau or Bennet 99.

Can't, it's retired league wide.

Not really a fan of telling rookies (this quickly) that they are going to stay up.

The Flames told Horak that he was going to stay with the Flames in November 2011, he was sent down in December 2011, was called up in December, then was sent down again in January 2012, was called up in February and then sent down again in March.

Jooris has been solid, hope he can keep it up.

That'd make betting on the games easier!

I met Jooris a couple of weeks ago along with Johnny Hockey. They're both great kids. Seems like they're just loving being in the NHL and not taking it for granted. Great attitudes!

Trade Bollig and give Jooris #25

He is worthy of Nieuwendyk's number

I am pretty sure you cannot change your number during the season.

I cannot find a link to support my notion, however.

Sure you can. When Cammalleri was traded back, Jokinen offered to give him #13, but he decided to go with #93 instead.

It doesn't happen often, but there are no rules against it.

You can change your number during the season. There is no rule against it.

Here's the CBA rules about jerseys. There is no rule about the numbers being changed mid-season: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26285

EDIT: Chris Drury did it with the Flames. Only played one season but wore both #37 and #18. Switched after the all-star break or something.

Yes, and then they could do a reality show about it too....

So awesome to hear the Flames giving this hard working kid the nod. Move Colborne to the wing when he comes back. The way he plays Center he is better suited for the wing anyways.
It is goofy that the Flames have Bollig wearing Niewy's 25.
Since it was brought up...
I recall KKing saying on a number of occasions that once a players number is "honored" by the Flames that that number would only be worn by a special player... Bollig ???
I guess the measuring stick is really low which is why the friggin numbers should be retired.
