Theo Fleury did all that in New York and Chicago.

The NFL generates tons of interest through gambling. If having a team in Vegas can get the sports betters interested in the NHL more than they are now, then that can't hurt. Add to that fantasy hockey. I think this demographic probably has room to grow.

As far as the team itself, any time a city only has one pro team, that is a good thing. San Jose has only the Sharks and have developed a good fan base. Columbus seems to have dedicated fans considering the crappy teams they've had. Las Vegas will only have hockey as a pro team.

I'm all for it as long as Quebec is on the horizon as well.

No one seems to care about Edmonton ruining careers. At least in Vegas they'd have fun doing it.

Bettman doesn't OK moves, even if you want to continue to delude yourself into thinking he operates as a dictator with 30 of the richest groups on the continent kowtowing to his every demand. To suggest otherwise is simply you stroking your own ego.

And all the NHL had to do was okay the move? So, basically allow a manipulate a Chapter 11 claim into force a team into the home territory of two teams, against their will? No, there is no chance in hell that anybody on the NHL side was going to stand for that. And you bloody well know it.

So please, if you are going to continue with your typical garbage, take it back to the Phoenix thread and let the grown ups here talk Las Vegas and wider league issues.
LOL, angry much.
Take your school yard insults somewhere else.

I'm not sure that's a great comparison. The temptation is much more in your face. Theo was seeking it out (I read his book). Someone who might be less prone to addiction and debauchery can still get messed up. From personal experience anyway, I just am not convinced that this will be a good thing at al

San Jose is in one of the wealthiest areas of the US. And Columbus is certainly nothing to aspire to.

This has disaster written all over it.

The team is ruining their careers, not the city itself

And we are never getting rid of Jagr now - he will crush all of Gordie's longevity records...

Name me a city in the league where players cant do that anytime they want.

the city wont make anything worse for the players. Besides there is a TON of other things to do in Vegas besides drinking and gambling.

You can add Shane O'Brian and Ryan O'Reilly.

Shane O'Brien and Ryan O'Reilly are ready for Vegas

Giguere rant “Some guys are more worried about their Vegas trip at the end of the season than playing the games, than playing every minute of the games. Quite frankly, I don’t care about your Vegas trip right now.”

For some reason I thought the arena would be right on the strip somewhere, but I guess it's being built right behind NYNY. Still a pretty sweet location, I'd love to spend a few days at NYNY at take in a game or two.

I think the main money maker for the arena will be big events like boxing. NHL hockey will be there to fill up the open dates and hopefully break even. I'm just wondering if it's been totally thought out as far as the NHL goes or if it's just a pipe dream fuelled by optimism and adrenalin.
