Kinda fitting, as whenever I see a new thread by Silver this is what pops in my head

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I figured I'd say to the folks calling this a troll job - it was mentioned in the other cat thread that his family wanted one, so it's not like this is out of left field. Far from a troll job IMO. But anyway.

I don't get this. At all.

1) You'd know it's temperment.
2) You'd know it's final size, looks, etc. No suprises as to what it's going to be when it grows up.
3) Cheaper than buying from a breeder I assume.
4) Life span severely reduced which seems to be a sticking point.

This is the exact same thing as people posting a "what new car should I buy" thread and you come in and pound the table for 8 pages about how they're stupid to buy a new car, buy used. It fits thier criteria and logically there is no other choice in the matter.

Guess what? An SPCA cat fits your criteria better than a breeder cat ever will but you're blind to the logic of it because you want that "new kitten smell".

My old roommates had a dog. It wasn't my dog, but I liked it fine enough. I didn't feed it, clean after it, let it out, or walk it. They took care of it just fine, and it was happy. We lived in a modest sized house, and it didn't get in my way.

It is completely fine to have an animal around the house that isn't yours. As long as it's being taken care of properly by at least one person (or in Sliver's case, 1-3 depending on the age of his kids) and obviously not being abused, then it's fine.

Some of you are acting like Sliver is living alone while intending to be abusive to this cat. He has has already said that it's not going to be his responsibility. That'll be left up to his wife. I can't speak for him, but I'd guess that if the cat curled up next to him on the couch, he's not going to go ahead and punch it in the face. It is entirely possible, and ethical to be living in the same house as a pet that's being taken care of by somebody else.

You can't possibly know that.

Get a munchkin cat. They are basicly cats with dwarfism in their breed so their legs are super short but they are chill cats.

You know that he created a thread arguing that it is ok to put down a cat because he is bored with it, don't you? Even by the end of the thread he hadn't changed his mind. I think that gives people a pretty valid reason to be concerned now that he is going to get a cat...especially considering he really doesn't want one to start with.

Yes. I would be concerned if he said "I live alone and hate cats, but looking to buy one." but he didn't. He said his family wants one and is willing to take care of it. He's made it clear he isn't going to take responsibility for it and doesn't want it.

I don't agree with it being ok to put down any animal because you're bored with it, but I think it's being wildy presumptuous to think that Sliver is going to do that to his family. Not to mention that while he may have that opinion, he still hasn't put down any cats he owned.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he cares more about his family's happiness than he does about a cat being in the house. He's already shown that by agreeing to get a cat.

All I'm saying is that it's perfectly ok to live in a house with an animal that isn't yours as long as you're not mistreating it, and it has somebody responsible to take care of it.

If he ends up giving it away because it sucks, or his family doesn't want it any more then I'll eat my words.

Well, if he gives it to another loving home and scores another hibachi for it, I won't hold it against him.

You know why so many cats end up at the Humane Society (wish you'd stop calling it the SPCA)? Its because people buy animals from places like pet stores and breeders and then decide they can't look forward to them anymore. The good people at the Humane Society take in the animals, and try to adopt them out to good people.

If you're going to get a cat, for the love of god adopt one. Don't buy one.

That being said, don't get a cat. You don't deserve one. And the cat did nothing wrong to get so unlucky as to wind up in your household.

Doesn't seem so. And yet people on here take his 'character' seriously as if they do. Quite remarkable really.
