why not take Seto's number away, he hasn't earned it. Jooris has earned the ability to pick a number that should be available, like mentioned above there are numbers that are just off limits being a flame even if we don't officially retire numbers.

Assuming 12 and 14 are off limits unofficially, that leaves 28, 30, 34, and 35.
Honestly, let him keep 86!

34 should also be off-limits.

I don't mind Burke's rule. But I iwsh (and maybe he does) leave it more open for double numbers (44, 55, etc...) because 77 would be a good one for Jooris.

yup. Also, 30 is retired.
hopfully they'll at least expand it to 40 instead of 35 as upper limit. Let Jooris have 37 and Bennett 39.

Given the number of Adirondack players that already have real numbers (Knight #10, Wotherspoon #26, Setoguchi #22) and the number of unofficially retired numbers (12, 14, 34)... Burke's rule really doesn't work.
Therefore Jooris should keep #86 and Bennett gets #93 or #39.
Also Poirier should get #77.

Brian Burke has said he wants no full-time guys here wearing higher than 35. I agree with you, but it won't happen.

Even 37 would be out as that's Ortio's number. I'm sure Jooris could take Baertschi is a cage match for the number though. I wouldn't mess with Brodie or Bouma.
Edit: Even better, give him #47, I can run down to the Fan Attic and get the Baertschi 3rd jersey they have on clearance, pull off Baertschi's name bar and put on Jooris'
Honestly though, great news. He's a likeable guy and he works hard. If you had said last season watching the Heat that Jooris would be the guy from that roster to be permanently with the NHL Flames in December and has been there since the start, I probably would have laughed until I blacked out. Not saying he wasn't a great player, but this was only shown in brief, intermittent flashes at best. We saw it maybe a shift or two a game, every couple games.

I think it is most likely he keeps 86 for the rest of the season and gets a new number in the offseason.

Burke needs to raise his number limit to 40. With all the retired and unofficially retired numbers, there just aren't enough low numbers for everyone. Plus this way Bennett can have 39.

Burkes got a stupid rule of low numbers. I'm thinking Jooris sticks with his #86 till the end of the season and than when Seto is gone next year he will take #22.

28 is free. It's 4X7, if he really likes number 7 I guess. It was Regher's number, but aside from that, no one else of exceptional note.
I suppose he could ask Seto or Wotherspoon or Knight about those numbers. I also suppose that if Bollig can wear 25 after Newy (who is a "Forever a Flame" guy), Jooris could wear Fleury's (and Nillson's) 14.

35 would be an awesome number, in honor of CP and our original expectations of him.

Best news I've heard all day.
And seriously, so much concern over a jersey number? I don't care what number he has on the back of his jersey so long as he has the flaming C on the front of his jersey. The kid has unreal amounts of effort and heart. A higher skilled Bouma. Can't get enough of those kinds of players.

#3 is the only lower number I can think of that isn't either taken or a number that nobody will wear..

He had great hair and all, but did Commodore do enough to get his number off limits?
Stupid Forever a Flames stuff
Double edit...

Seto "earned" his number by making the team out of training camp, whether people liked that at the time or not. But, anyway, it would just be rude to "strip" the number of a veteran who they said could make a comeback if he performs well (which is probably lip service but whatever). It would be the wrong message and basically telling guys who get demoted that they have no chance of returning. And if there's a number to be removed it's Knight's anyway.
Jooris could "buy" the number from Setoguchi, I guess. I haven't seen it done with an AHL player.
It's probably also the case that there's more than one step in the messaging. Step 1 is get a place. Step 2 is get a low number.

re: Regehr...its interesting that no-one has worn that number (am I forgetting someone?) since he left. I realize its not that long ago, but 2nd in franchise GP, are they holding that one back?
re: 14 and Fleury...I don't have an opinion one way or another, but I guess the fact it hasn't been re-deployed yet means that might still be holding back for something other than Forever a Flame?

Did I miss something? When was Wotherspoon given 26? On the Flames' site he's still listed as 56 and he wears 5 in Adirondack.
If anything, I'd expect Granlund to take 26 since that's the number he's been wearing in the AHL.
