No doubt he needs to shoot more. Pretty common thing among rookies to not shoot the puck enough to avoid looking selfish.

Monahan shoots way more this year than he did last year. He actually leads the team in shots this year.

He'll figure it out in time. He's still on pace for around 15 goals as a rookie which is pretty damn good.

I don't really see him as a big time goal scorer anyway. Not to say he'll never score 30 in this league, but his strength is always going to be his vision and playmaking ability.

I don't know. I'm not sure he needs to radically change his game approach

I find Gaudreau needs to work on his passing. He can go tape-to-tape with anybody anywhere, don't get me wrong. But he passes at the wrong time, or to the wrong guy. He would produce so many more scoring chances if he worked on his "when" passing. I find he will play the puck to someone, and that someone already has a stick check.

Lady today at Shoppers drug mart decided to pay for most of her items then go pick out some more wrapping paper. I'm usually fairly patient, but I guess I just wasn't having it today.

"Are we waiting for someone?" (Obviously I know we're waiting for someone)

"yeah, she's just grabbing one more thing over there"

*I look over, she's digging through a display with a sales associate, with no end to her search in site

"Aren't people typically supposed to get everything they want before they come to the 'til?"

"Umm sir, you can probably get helped at the cosmetics counter if you don't want to wait here".

I felt like the drunk guy at the bar, where the waitresses realize he's getting to "that point" so they try to calmly but forcefully get him out of their establishment.

But seriously, the nerve of some shoppers. I'm not trying to sound like Mr. Ialwaysdotherightthing, but if that's me and I realize I either forgot something or suddenly want more things, I ether

A) leave the line before I start getting checked through, or

B) realize that I'm already being checked out and it's now too late to resume shopping

I suspect that the lady in question was Johnny Gaudreau. The poster was making an attempt, out of respect for a young prospect and future team cornerstone, to protect identities.

I just happened to notice he made a few incredible passes to guys that were already getting checked. The passes had no business getting to them, but they were stripped right away. It was especially evident last against the Sharks.

I was waiting for him to say Johnny was holding up the line because he couldn't find the skittles!

He did do that a couple of times and he probably should have shot instead... but that will come the more confident he becomes... and you can certainly see that he's becoming more and more self assured with every game.

I was expecting flameswin to tell us that the cashier said: "Look sir, THAT'S Johnny Hockey's mother and you can damn well wait your turn!"

Gaudreau getting support from Burke:

http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/...johnny-hockey/

Quote:
"I did talk to him after the Chicago game (on Dec. 14), though. He had a big turnover that might've cost them the game," Gaudreau said. "I asked him how he was feeling. He said he felt bad, but the next day team President Brian Burke came up to him and said, 'You change your game because of that mistake, I'll send you back down to (AHL) Adirondack. Keep doin' what your doin' -- you're doing a great job.'

"For the President and coach Bob Hartley to come to him and say, 'Hey, that happens when you handle the puck as much as you do. You lost an edge, it happens,' -- was nice."
Also his dad has some advice for him:
Quote:
"I'm not going to tell him what to do, though, I think he passes the puck too much," Gaudreau chuckled, "I think he should shoot more, but whatever he's doing out there, I guess he's doing a pretty good job."

Glad to see the encouragement from Burke. Gaudreau is a smart player and will round out his game with time. A player with that much skill and creativity needs a bit of freedom and I don't want to see him become hesitant because of a few inevitable mistakes.

Really, Gaudreau gets pretty much a free pass from me this year. You know he's going to make mistakes, that's part of being a rookie, and part of growing his game. The important thing is he learns from it. I can't wait to see him after a couple more years, when his game has rounded to form. The kid just makes things happen out there.
