Default Wacky Weather Warning!

Trying to the get the heads up for folks a little earlier this time. Nothing has hit Calgary yet... but look West. There are huge thunderstorms forming along the foothills. Be careful, plan ahead, don't get caught outside.

Here's hoping we don't get hammered too hard.

Beware for sure. There is potential in alberta for very large thunderstorms and tornado's today. That one west of calgary just formed in less than 15 minutes. Very impressive.

I'll be heading out after the penalty kicks. Hopefully I can get some good pics. It looks like it is still getting stronger and I suspect it will head north of the city. But you never know.

It may head north of the city but this is the warning just issued by Environment Canada:

City of Calgary
2:46 PM MDT Sunday 9 July 2006
Severe thunderstorm warning for
City of Calgary issued

Weather radar shows an intense thunderstorm west of Calgary tracking to the northeast at 35 km/h. Northern sections of Calgary may be effected by this thunderstorm. Large hail and intense rains are likely with these thunderstorms.

This is a warning that severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring in these regions. Remember that some severe thunderstorms produce tornadoes. Listen for updated warnings.

Also, from watching the radar it looks like we could be hit anyway even if this cell misses us, there looks to be more coming behind it.

Yep, north calgary around the airport area is probably going to get hammered... At least there's no reports of funnel clouds. Yet.

NW Here, the hail is VERY BIG... a few walnut sized perhaps. It sounds like someone is shooting at my window...
Edit: now they are smaller (thank goodness) about pee sized and mixed with rain

Looks like a hurricane just hit outside the Foothills Hospital. It's nuts out there.
