My brain is cramping on the 2 NHL centres point. I can agree with him that it wasn't a mistake if that was his BEST OPTION, but was it really his best option?
That Sam Gagner for Teddy Purcell deal SO TANTALIZING that he just HAD to take it?

Were the trade offers to bring in at least ONE more NHL level C SO BAD that it was worth gambling on Draisatl being ready this year?

Honestly... would love to see what the options where on that choice, because it sure does look like it was a turd of a choice

MacT used at least 15 words in that press conference that are not in English language.
If he said we are "Messaging " one more time....

Sorry guys late to the party. Did the Edmonton media actually ask some difficult questions or were they the typical softballs we've come to expect from a media that is bought and paid for by the team?

MacTavish "We have a better story to tell free agents now."
It is the EXACT same story that they have been telling for a decade.

When you have to tell free agents a "story", well, that's the start of "no good".

There were a couple of good questions, but MacT just responded with the "I've only been on the job for 18 months" answer.

Definitely the highlight of the day so far. The best question was probably "You've got 2 players in the past 7-8 drafts outside of the first round in your lineup. What are you doing to improve the drafting?"

"We've improved the drafting"

Here's the thing - Why wouldn't you be prepared and have anticipated the questions that the reporters would be asking prior to this debacle this morning? It's akin to preparing an important witness for a trial, you have a pretty good idea what questions are going to be asked and you should be confident with your answers (not bumbling, stumbling and hesitating reaching for answers).

To me, it's just one more example of the arrogance of this organization and just displays an attitude of "How dare you question what we are doing?"

The story used to be on a DVD. Now they've upgraded to Blu-Ray. Great success!

Boy hearing that would INFURIATE me if I were an Oiler fan.
In fact, I felt a twinge of sympathy for the fans up there... then I thought of what they will be like in the summer when they have McEichel.... screw them.

I hope the Oilers are 30th every year.... they can build an entire team out of their own 1st overall picks and will still be a steaming pile of donkey poop.

So MacTavish has gone from "I'm an impatient guy and I'm going to make bold moves" to "We've got the right pieces in place to grow and it's going to take patience" in 18 months. "Trading is hard and we're not going to root out the core"
He's all over the map here. Won't take the blame for anything prior to 18 months, yet mentions all the coaches they've gone through prior to that. Edmonton has to dump Eakins first to try and salvage value from their players. It boggles the mind how he doesn't see this.

MacTavish says that Edmonton's ability to attract free agents is much better now than it has been? Who in their right mind would want to sign there after this season?

Is this going to appease the fans? NoIs this going to appease the media? No
Is this going to motivate the players/coach? No
Is this going to entice free agents? No

In fact, on all of the above I think there'll be a backlash more than anything. Fans now know for certain that management has no desire to fix the problem...they just want to wait for McJesus to save the day. The media has even more ammunition to ridicule the team now, because this is the clearest evidence yet of intentional tanking. Players who give a s*** are realizing that there's no help coming, and will probably start outright demanding trades if they haven't already. And free agents...well, to paraphrase Groucho Marx: I wouldn't want to have any free agents who want to be a part of that kind of club.

So who was this presser for? Only two possible answers: Lowe & Katz.
