Besides, it's a stupid superstition. Tampa Bay was the best team in the league that year and we were a missed call away from winning it all. Can't ask for more than that. In fact, considering how well we played in the playoffs against elite opponents, despite a slightly better than average regular season, I'd say we were the ones with a horseshoe planted firmly up our butts.
|
a. You can't say they played well and then say they had horseshoes. Yes, they beat top teams, but they did it over 6 and 7 games every time, and they did by, as you say, playing well.
b. I think Detroit was the best team in the league that year. Finished first in points in a tougher conference. Had better top to bottom forwards (though TB had a dynamite few top end guys) and better defence (sorry Cory). I'd give TB the edge in goaltending though.

The first time Iggy played in Calgary as a Bruin, I wanted him to do well. This time, I want him to lose badly

That being said, I hope the 'new era' Flames show those 'has-beens' in Colorado what it takes to win, and out work the Avs to a painful death tonight. I'd even like to see a little bit of jealousy and envy creep across the faces of Iginla and Tanguay as they watch our Flames bench, who are clearly unified as a team, and wonder what might have been if they had different attitudes/leadership styles during their time in Calgary.
Flames win 4 - 2

I don't know why the hate, Iggy gave Calgary a lot of good times to call him a "has-been" is a bit much. Its not like I want him to win or score or anything I just don't see the reason to put him down like that? Same with Tanguay.

That first time back from Boston was magical, as the fans never had a prior chance to give him a proper sendoff. With that done, I expect he'll still get some warm ovations tonight - but I think everyone has moved on.

People like to blame the failures of the past number of years on one player. The only legitimate star outside of kipper we had. Some people are stupid.
Always going to appreciate what Iggy brought.

These 2 guys are not on my team anymore, and thus the Rose colored glasses have come off. I agree that Iggy gave Calgary a lot of good times, I'm not debating that. But now that we can see clearly, I would say that his leadership style (along with others i.e Tanguay) were clearly not conducive to "winning", and "doing whatever it takes". I have much more respect for a guy like Giordano, who was undrafted, played in the KHL & AHL, only to crack the lineup in the NHL and "hard work" his way into a leadership position. I believe Gio is the type of leader that will take teams to the next level and win.
The "hate" you're sensing is really just pent up frustration from years of mediocrity, and only now, years later, seeing the reason why that existed.

@Fan960Steinberg: Stajan wearing a green jersey along with Raymond and McGrattan this morning. Decent indication he won't play tonight. #Flames

iggy has 15 points so far this season - if he were still a flame he'd be tied for 6th in team scoring....

The Flames are going to light it up tonight and make Iggy look bad.

I understand your sentiment but disagree with placing any sort of blame at the feet of Iginla. Is Brown some super captain? Kings aren't really dependent on him being this flawless leader type. We just didn't have a team that was good enough, 1-23
We weren't drafting worth a fata (literally, our 1st rounders under Sutter were not even as good as Rico Fata). There was no Sutter-era equivalent to Monahan, Gaudreau, Brodie, and so on. That's the main difference. We're not this lunch bucket team being lead above our heads by super-leader Gio. There is just lots of talent.

Flames skated with the same lines as Tuesday's game against the Coyotes.

Flames win 3-2.
Brodie, Bollig and Hudler with Flames goals. Iginla and Landeskog for Colorado.

Makes sense. The team is doing well, no need to rush anybody back.
I really wish I could go to the game tonight. Two fast and skilled teams. Should be a lot of fun.

He'll get his 400 sooner or later , but you know he wants it tonight.
Come on Flames, win this one for Hartley!
